I’d like a football game similar to EA but without all the extras like x factors and such. The game seems too focussed on all the whistles instead of the game.
Pretty sure you’re not alone
Old school is the best school
I don't think that's old school at all honestly. It's arguably new school because it's based on this modernized concept of making it arcade football, which ironically betrays much of the NFL's reasoning for the exclusive license with EA in the first place - to maintain an image of realism, simulations that are not a child's game etc was my understanding. They didn't want it to be like NFL blitz, but what you're describing with these abilities really is kind of going that direction.
Thats how they get you to spend more.
Back then it was just based on stats and now its who can outdo who
This game is basically a fantasy game like Pokémon or WOW with the way they want us to boost our “characters” instead of just letting stats be stats and playing football.
I used to absolutely love when chem boosts were alot more simple, I don't really even pay attention to them anymore I just play because it's just all over the place, and you can spend a bunch of training on sh*t that don't matter doing it.

Pretty much this^
Idk how to feel about x-factors and abilities tbh. Originally, one of the biggest complaints with the game was that all the players feel the same, and that it didn’t feel like there was enough difference between a Julio Jones and a Braxton berrios. I think this was the primary reasoning for adding x-factors. I personally think that abilities wouldn’t be needed if they made a new, physics based engine. This way stuff like thresholds and animations won’t matter because every rating that is slightly different will result in different gameplay, not just a different animation.
But until EA decides to put at least 1% of the billion dollars they make from madden every year the odds we get a new engine are about 0
But no you’re definitely not alone in wanting abilities gone, but they are a big money maker right now so I don’t think they are going anywhere for a while.

I personally hate abilities because that's what you pay for now, not the actual card. The first thing people ask when a new card drops is "what abilities does he get and how much AP will it cost" it's garbage. Then you need to have certain stats to get certain abilities, it's dumb and it waters down the card pool since barely anything works unless it has an ability.
But this is what the game is so fuck it
Don't know why they just have a gamemode with no abilitys
