Like..to me it just seems like instead of letting us choose alternate card art, they're making us pay for it now? Seems kinda messed up if you ask me. Maybe I'm missing something though, what do y'all think?

I cannot figure this out for myself, but there are fairly regular periods where the Vintage cards (which are objectively superior) can cost significantly LESS than the regular versions. But you're not wrong here, EA is finding "clever" (i.e. nefarious) ways to monetize more and more aspects of the game.
This is not even the second year in a row now that they've literally fed us last year's content -- three years we've been using some/many of these AKA cards. Yet somehow EA bootlickers constantly show up to defend this, liek it's an intentional design choice (to make us pay for last year's content) that should somehow be celebrated.
To actually answer your question, YES -- if i'm intending to actually use the card / player's X-factor ability, then i will almost exclusively go for the Vintage variant, as these typically last longer and cost less (in terms of Ability Points, but also price). Don't rush out and pay 800k for Marshawn Lynch today, i cannot in good conscience advise that, but be patient, i'm sure you'll find plenty of buying opportunities. CJ2K is still a superior running back, IMO -- unless you have a specific theme team requirement, go search out that Vintage CJ2K.
the vintage cards prior to this week get their x factors for 1AP less and they stay on for one play longer in game, Beast mode this week gets evasive x factor which his set card does not get access too
Me personally.. I’m always gonna get the shiny version.

Oh wow, thank you for clarification -- i had no idea that they're not even giving the regular version the ability.

first time they’ve done it this way, definitely going to change the vintage versions being cheaper than the set card on release if they continue

Oh okay, yeah I guess I missed that. Still seems like an odd choice. Just give us a separate new card rather than a shinier version of a throwback. Thats just me tho
yea for ap purposes

think EA will continue to go down this route. they did it with the campus hero cards having 3 different editions for what ever reason
