Wondering if anyone had any tips to run an effective man scheme? I usually play coverage and don't send to man blitzes. I have been using Parham and moss outside with Turner and Hayes slot. I get burned all the time and don't know if it's cuz my cbs are too big or what. I was thinking of doing Bolden and turner/McAlister outside with osa and turner/McAlister and Hayes or possibly someone better as my slots to go with smaller man to man archetype. Is this the best move or should i be running other players? And what abilities? Ty all for any help. Oh and is pa necessary on all dbs?
If you're running man coverage it's essential that you understand how to properly shade your coverage. You can probably find a tutorial on YouTube that explains it better than I ever could.
The most important abilities for a good man scheme are inside shade and one step ahead. Having one of these abilities will help your corners play the receiver's route much better. I'd start with putting it on your slot corners as they will almost always be in a position where inside shade will activate.
Inside shade can even be useful on outside corners due to how prevalent tight formations are this year as it will often activate there as well.
You maybe able to get away with not running inside shade on your outside CBs depending on how often you play people who don't use tight formations.
If you choose not to run one step ahead or inside shade on your outside cbs. I would look to get a drko and pick artist stack.
Another ability that can work well in man is any special version of universal coverage. Having multiple KOs is very powerful especially in man where the receiver's route determines which KO you want. The right KO can save you if the CB got beat. But without inside shade/osa your db is more likely to get beat badly enough that it won't matter if the defender has a KO.
Pick Artist is one of the more interesting parts of man schemes. Ideally, you'd want every DB on your defense to have it. After all, players with pick artist will get much more interceptions than the ones without it. But a lot of man schemes will cut pick artist on players with inside shade/osa for a KO because of the 6 ap cap. I tend to agree with this decision. But if you value turnovers high it may be worth having no ko for pick artist.
Overall, I like the direction you're heading in with your man scheme
Idk I’ve been running man all year and use to find sucess with osa and inside shade, but now with all the double ap WR getting short in, out elite and deep out elite i find its Harder to run man and am considering moving to zone as they are getting burnt now a lot more
Breakluna nailed it.
But to add an important bit- you have to generate pressure. You also have to mix in zone plays to keep you opponent off balance.
As for generating pressure, it doesn't matter what coverage abilities a CB has if the QB has enough time for routes to develop. I find that I have to have a 0 blitz I can turn to. It's a must. The more you have in your arsenal the better. Learn how to adjust CB shading for what your oppnent is doing. Stock plays are not for every situation. Do not over use press.
I play a lot of 2 man under against certain opponents, so my choice of safeties (and their abilities) becomes a huge factor for substitutions and Sub LB.
I also have a base package that can generate pressure and cover, while acting as my primary run D- so I prioritize that my top 2 CBs have X-Factors (Universal Coverage on Mo and Shut Down on Gilly Lock) since they will be on the field for probably every defensive play, and are the only CBs in those base sets. Since my safeties man up in this formation, they are different than the two I have for my 2 man under look, and I will sometimes throw a better man coverage CB in one or both Safety positions instead, depending on the play I pick.
I mostly only run in dollar because there's so many great man and zone Plays like you could run cover 4 drop all game and then come out in spinner when there not expecting it cause it's the same formation
The best man coverage player is Anquan Boldin, period. One step ahead is an incredible man coverage ability. I mostly run zone but for most of the year I played in man using DB blitz (which is basically db fire but in the cardinals playbook) and over storm brave. I also used cover 2 man and a variety of cover 1 plays out of dime formation. All these worked pretty well but now that every WR is 99 everything it just seemed like I was getting burned too frequently

Ya I picked up boldin. So I have him and tuner outside with osa and McAlister inside shade and jpj universal in slots. Peppers and carmicheal at safties. I was wondering the same as one of the other guys who responded that maybe man doesn't work too well anymore. You think maybe zone is better now that all wrs have 2 0aps?

Ok ty. Do you think zone is more effective?

Yes but even against 99 WRs with route tech it makes man coverage very hard esp against corner and post routes. I definitely think that zone is the way to go with 99 WRs with route tech or any 2 0ap ability WRs

No I don't think I'd say zone is more effective. I run man because it's the scheme that is the most effective for me. But I believe you can have success running either. I'm not going to say you have to run man or zone.
One of them is probably better at the pro madden player level. And I'll be the first to admit I'm nowhere close to that level. I'm not sure which one the pros like more this year as I don't follow the competitive scene closely.
If you don't like how man coverage is playing by all means switch to zone. Both have strengths and weaknesses. It's all about finding what works best for you.
so now let's dive in real deep and list top 5 Man and Zone Cb's . I just switched to Zone and maybe some insight from all of you guys could help. like what's the best abilities best playbook formation. I'm damn near ready to say forget madden 24. this is a beeatch trying to figure what's best. I'm running Raiders TT and really at this point I just want some wins
I'm hearing that Man might not be best, but yet I just got done playing a guy that had his CB's dry humping the hell out of my receivers up and down the field. it was very frustrating. couldn't get any separation.
I usually just select the first man play that appears in the coach suggestions lmao
Get as much one steps and insides shades along with KOs that you can. running man with while shading underneath boxes any slants, crosses, etc.. but can be beat with atreaks or any type out route so be careful . Also sending pressure helps alot

Byron Jones (DZKO, FZKO and PA for 1AP) and Deion Sanders (MZKO, PA for 0 AP) have to be in your zone scheme. As for the other guys, not sure yet. I’m testing this out myself. I had Parham and Carmichael. Parham kept getting burned so I moved him to SS and he’s been great there. Chad Johnson/Joey Porter (Comp Pass) are very helpful with the 2AP for universal/PA. Kyle Hamilton and Jay Ward are great as well. The problem is figuring out where to place everyone.
