I’ve been seeing a lot of discussions about who the best runningbacks in MUT are recently, especially since the release of Eric Dickerson!
I’m making this post because I believe my insight could be quite valuable as my play style is run-first and has been since I started playing Madden, which is before MUT even existed. I routinely run for 230+ yards a game, and even in this Madden where it is much easier to stop the run, I’m still quite successful.
without further ado, here is who I believe to be the best runners in MUT:
1. Marshawn Lynch
Marshawn is and has been the most balanced and efficent runner in the game almost every year where he has had a relevant card and that hasn’t changed this year. he gets by far the most successful truck animations of any of the runners, possesses breakaway speed, and is still incredibly shifty as well. he’s the perfect size for fitting through tight gaps, and can easily be used elusively, yet maintains the power to truck even the biggest/strongest safeties in the game (ex. Hendricks, Peppers, Taylor) if you want to run first choose Marshawn Lynch, he will not be topped. He also gets bruiser and tank for 1 AP.
2. Earl Campbell
Earl is at No. 2 because out of all the top rated backs, he is easily the most consistent runner. He just doesn’t possess the dominance that Lynch carries. Earl will routinely fight for extra yards, and often times comes through in tight 3rd and 3 or 4th and 3 situations, he only fumbled once the entire time I used him, and I honestly couldn’t name a single flaw in his game. He just doesn’t have the same “it” factor that Lynch has in terms of breaking key tackles, and sliding through gaps. However he is a very strong contender and should not be overlooked. He also gets 0 AP Goaline Back, which does works, and 1 AP Tank.
3. Walter Payton
It is true Walter is beginning to fall off due to having a lower overall rating than the top backs in the game, he is No. 3 though because no other runner is as fluid or easy to evade with as Walter, when Walter gets a new card he will easily contend for top spot, although Lynch will not be dethroned for reasons mentioned above. Walter breaks his fair share of tackles, has great spin and juke animations, and an extremely balanced runner in power, elusive, and receiving styles. great for a team looking for a budget back. He also gets 0 AP Juke Box and is a great backup RB for when your starter gets tired.
HM: William Perry
I was the one who brought William Perry into glory last year leading to his Golden Ticket release, I had over 30k yards and 3000 TDs on the 95 OVR zero chill Fridge from Madden 22. I am sad to say he is not as dominant in this years madden, some power animations are slower this year, sheds are faster, and safeties are just too good in run support leading to lots of double team tackles which hurt Fridge’s style. However he is still the premier short-yardage runner, slap Bulldozer on him and he can and will run over any card in the game with relative ease, he is still quite dominant, just not as dominant as last year
