I need a new defense, I am sick of getting drag spammed. What are you guys having success with, any suggestions help. I'm also thinking of buying a subscription for a month or two on huddlegg to really learn some good playbooks.
I usually use cover 3 and shade underneath
Most importantly, if your opponent is drag spamming make sure you turn match off long enough to get him to stop. Definitely don't run man (if you're crazy enough to try running man you can shade inside and underneath but make sure you have safety help... definitely no spinner or anything like that lol). If he keeps hitting a drag 5 yards down the field set your flats to 5 and like I said turn match off. The corners will a lot of the times get there to break it up or get underneath and pick it. What you wanna do with your user is follow the drag across the middle of the field and then try and transition him to a route that's going over top right as the drag is getting to the other side where the corner in a flat can pick him up. If it's a mesh concept and you have multiple drags crossing I run with one of the drags and then usually before they meet I hard cut and start sprinting in front of the other one (timing is key here, too early and you leave the initial route wide open but too late and you're not gonna catch up to the second drag you wanted to cover) and I've gotten so many lurks like that. I have some clips doing stuff like this too lol.
But yeah TLDR: Set flats to 5, cover 3 shade underneath, turn off match.
One more tip, Nickel 3-3 can be good here too since you'll have an extra LB to help in coverage. Sometimes you can spread out your DBs (depending on formation) more by base aligning and pressing. I think spreading your linebackers would be ideal too esp. If running 3-3. Another thing it does is moves your players farther away from the zone that they're actually going to be guarding which CAN sometimes make it a bit more difficult for your opponent to make reads. Kinda like a buzz concept or a robber where the safety actually comes DOWN to guard the middle of the field instead of going up to play over top. Sometimes guys might see a cover 3 buzz and mistake it for a cover 4 because they don't know that the safety is coming down until they snap the ball. Sorry this got really lengthy. Defense is the most high IQ shit in football and it can get ridiculously complicated lol.
Football is an amazing fucking game of chess if you really care to look at it as such.
