This is my first MUT in probably 5 years, is it worth playing if I'm not going to be dumping money into the game? Things like gate keeping xp and having to complete Champion sets to earn rewards that still put me behind money squads doesn't make sense. Sorry if it sounds like im complaining, i just want some info from longer term players.

Definitely not worth it. you should quit now
If it's still enjoyable to play then continue, if not then call it quits.

If he has to come and ask complete strangers if he should quit or not I can’t imagine he’s having much fun

Unfortunately, this is how MUT was last year as well, so now we 100% know it wasn’t a coincidence. I’m just counting down the days until fifa comes out so I have a sports game to grind. There’s been absolutely nothing to do in MUT and it’s week 1 lol
Road to glory and franchise is all I’m doing this year
I have been playing FIFA / EAFC & Madden for the last five or six years No Money Spent and it is worth continuing if you are willing to 'play the long game'.
The gap between players that spend money on packs / bundles and NMS players, is at its worst at the beginning of the cycle. As more promos land & more cards become available, the gap slowly but surely closes. Free cards earned through the field pass, weekly token promos (Legends, AKA etc) and Limited Edition 'rentals' will form the basis of your team.
At the moment I am completing the Field Pass, building up a stockpile of coins and quietly working on my gameplay / building my scheme and not getting too carried away with H2H mis-matches.

FiFA ultimate team has way better rewards and a way better all round game mode. The SBCs and companion app are fantastic in comparison and you literally can spend hours playing the menus without it feeling like a chore. I’ve been no money spent for years and consistently had a top tier team. Pulled Ronaldinho the last two years and R9 the year before. MUT and CUT are intense money grabs. The way I play it and enjoy it is to completely forget about having a top team and focus on building a scheme. Then it’s fun beating stacked teams with that scheme. Different games, different ways to play.
I enjoy the game, just not some of the people that play it. Nasty humans.

I mean I prefer Football, but I’m from the UK so I like ‘soccer’ as well.
also the point is it’s not EA that is pure money grab and makes a shit game mode, it’s the madden team at EA. Cos FUT is so much better.

Can confirm. If y’all never played FIFA you wouldn’t even be able to comprehend how much better the content is than what Madden is putting out. And I’m not talking just cards. The game modes, the menu grind, the chemistry, the live upgrades based on irl performances. It’s wild that these two games are the same company. Madden doesn’t even have any correlation any longer to what’s currently happening in the NFL. The TOTW program was the closest thing we had and that’s been awful the last 2 years.
I appreciate the insight from everyone. I wish it was possible to put time into the game to make up the gap of not spending money. I guess those days are behind us now. Probably being more nostalgic with pulling a patrick willis 5 star card back in the day lmao.

Spot on. And even stuff like the objectives, so much simpler than season passes, they update more, are more varied and you get great rewards. And then there is Evo’s - power ups done the right way.

Build a scheme, a proper one, get the best players you can to execute it. a well executed scheme can beat a stacked team and it’s fun developing it Plus the wins feel rewarding.
