I recently switched from running three Colossus/Unstoppable Force on my line to Universal Coverage on Woolen and Asomugha and One Step on Williamson and it has been a complete gamechanger.

Sure D Line X-Factors are fun when you play somebody without Secure Protectors, but they don’t make a difference against anybody with a great team. Being able to run Pick Artists and also knock out almost anything FOR A TOTAL of 1 AP on all three corners opens up ability options all over the place.  It makes mixing in man and zone almost impossible to beat.

My current setup:

Asomugha (Universal Coverage, Pick Artist, Flat Zone, Outside Shade): 1 AP

Woolen (Universal Coverage, Pick Artist): 1 AP

Williamson (One Step Ahead, Pick Artist, Flat Zone, Short Route): 1AP

If you’ve been running Sapp, Donald, Karlaftis, Phillips, etc. for a while and are looking to change it up I highly recommend trying it out.

I run universal coverage on Jaire and 2 dline x factors. I run zone so universal doesn't cover much more ground than the KOs on my DBs. Also vs good players I need all the help possible getting pressure on the QB.

Yeah, moving xfactors off the dline is definitely the move as more people get Secure protector. With your setup, do you find that your opponents take advantage of the plays before your xfactors activate? Is there something you do in your scheme that works well enough to slow them down enough for your xfactors to take over?

Or when I see you’re weak on abilities on the d line and run the ball all game and literally negate those coverage X factors. Throw the ball on 3rd and money downs only.

I typically just run what I would normally, but maybe a little bit more conservative on zone drops and more man.  Hasn‘t really come back to bite me yet, but worse case they are all on by the second drive and the payoff is 100% worth it.

For people that disagree here, that‘s totally fine. Maybe it‘s not for everybody, but as somebody who has played this game competitively for a long time I‘ve noticed that it’s significantly more effective.
