Route Tech question

Hey everybody,

I saw on the subreddit that Route Tech works against zone defenses (like stock zone, I know it works against match) but I can't get it light up (not even once) in practice mode.

I think the mod who picked a fight with me over this is spreading misinformation (which is what he banned me for hilariously enough).  Has route tech ever worked against zone?  I thought One Step Ahead was the counter, and that works only in man explicitly on abilities.gg or whatever site that is.  This guy didn't like the fact that I didn't attach a bibliography to my reddit comment, so he banned me.

It is mostly for man coverage because you can beat them on the cut and the CB can’t react to the cut nearly as fast. If you run it against zone coverage it should still light up in the cut but it won’t be as dominant or noticeable as against man coverage. Its not really worth it against zone cuz you can just throw it when your player leaves that zone regardless of the cut.

Madden 22 Route Tech was king. Wish it would come back. They nerfed it n m23 and this year as well. It didn't light up in m23 as well in as in m22, and oddly enough m23 was man coverage meta. 

I used Route tech this year and it then took it off. Didn't notice a difference.

This is pretty much my understanding of how jt works as well. It can activate regardless of what coverage is called but how much it actually helps the receiver get open is going to depend on what coverage the defense is playing.

Also sometimes abilities don't seem to light up even when they do something. Like my secure protector doesn't light up every play when I'm facing unstoppable force/colossus but it sure seems like it's slowing it down every play.

What do yall mean when you say "light up" with regard to abilities? Does the star icon flash orange when an ability is activated and utilized, similar to how the X-Factor glows orange when it is ON? I'm guessing the star icon flash would be brief and only for a moment, but I've never noticed a light up effect when abilities are used, but the only ability I'd be confident identifying as being utilized would be a KO, Juke Box, or SFL.

Yes, the star icon briefly flashes orange when some abilities activate. But yeah it doesn't always seem to flash even when I know the ability is doing it's thing. The abilities you listed are a good indicator of that

I just think it doesn't work at all this year. Been using it a while and even against man coverage I see nothing and no extra separation either

Ya it only seems to do it on key plays like the beginning of a drive or something like that I’m not sure but you’re right it doesn’t light up too frequently every game

It does work this year I’ve tried it out but it’s not nearly as dominant as it was in years prior cuz they nerfed the hell out of it

Route Technician: Receivers with this ability have a high success rate when creating separation on the last cut of any route.

• Catching_ChanceCounterOutcome_OffWin: Grants the receiver an improved chance to win on a counter move.
• Catching_ChanceReceiverWinOnCut: Grants the receiver an improved chance to win on a cut move.

I've been trying RT lately, starting with the free JJettas from Comp Pass and currently with Sun God and Nico Collins, but honestly it seems very situational. It's nice to have in case you have an opponent trying to man up. Lots of Zone defenders also Man up Slot receiver or TE maybe. Honestly, there aren't any WR abilities worth using this year, except YAC 'Em Up and Jukebox/Evasive so you can break a tackle after the catch. Double Me can insta-burn Man Press coverage, but straight man kind of sucks and isn't that difficult to beat with stock receivers. Matchup Nightmare seems a little glitchy, it activates basically every play. Red Zone Threat has potential, but again, situational. 

YMMV, those are my thoughts. Reddit has become an absolute cesspool, I can barely use it these days. You're better off here on MUTgg. 😎

The description says it is a man beating ability and my own experience in gameplay has been it is only effective against man.   If going against strictly zone it will not light up. 

For this reason,   i prefer slot o or short in/out elite over route tech if if it's an option. 

Slot o is very effective. Most are turn off thinking is only useful in the slot but what the game considers slot is actually more extended than what you would think leaving you can get it to activate on an outside receiver under the right circumstances. 

CeeDee Lamb with slot as wr1 is great on my squad and I highly recommend.
