Don't know much about Xs and Os...I have learned that Cover 4 Palms is a Hybrid defense (can be man or zone depending on what receivers do), which I don't care for. I have had some success in Cover 6 Invert from Nickel, Big Nickel and Nickel Wide...but not sure if this is a strictly zone defense (this is what I want it to be)...and why it seems to work fairly well against pass and run. Any current or former coaches (even coach wannabes) have any input?
Is Cover 6 Invert a Man, Zone or Hybrid (like Palms) Coverage? Comments Welcome
I used the Patriots hybrid defense for a little while and I'm pretty sure Cover 6 Invert is primarily zone. That being said, it was in a "Hybrid" playbook, so not completely sure. Also, this website has a tab that directs you to huddle.gg where you can look up specific plays based on playbook.
Cover 6 is a combination of Cover 4 and Cover 2. Split the field in half. The Cover 4 side is on the strong side of your opponent's formation and the Cover 2 side is on the weak side of your opponent's formation. This is why it is called cover 6. 4+2=6. Pretty simple and does not incorporate any man coverage. Also, saw something that said Cover 4 incorporates man. Also wrong. Just has both outside corners and safetys playing deep quarters with flats and hooks for the rest of the defenders. Hope this helps lol

Egregiously false. Cover 6 is a match concept defense. Its base is zone, but the defenders have man responsibilities if their numbered offensive threat goes vertical. Same with Cover 4.
Judging by the poll so far, people don’t understand some basic coverage concepts. More reason why abilities need to go away, so there are less bailouts for not understanding defensive coverages.

Put zone drops out there and it will negate the match concept. Then you’ll have Cover 6 zone only.

it is really not "egresiously" false. There are different types of cover 4 or cover 6. There is cover 4 drop or cover 4 match. one is a pure zone and the other is a hybrid. both of us are wrong and right
