Why does the game auto start my MLB4?

I have 99 Lewis at MLB1, 99 Wagner at MLB2, 97 Willis at MLB3 and just put 99 Crowder at MLB4 - yet the game always plays Crowder over Lewis at every defensive formation I play. 
 

Does anybody know why that is? How do I ensure that Lewis is my permanent starter?

Who do you have at sub LB in the specialist tab? Nickel, dime, dollar, and quarters all use your sub LB to determine who will be on the field. Placing Lewis at sub LB1 should result in him always being on the field on defense.

Thanks for this. What I realized is that for some reason, Lewis' and Wagner's abilities were turned off. So the game must have recognized Crowder as the better player. Once I turned them back on we were good to go.
