How does Gambit work exactly?

I tried it today and I got picked off by AI on my first throw after it was activated. It was kind of a reckless throw but I knew my opponent wasn’t usering the LB so I sent it. The LB insta picked it out of the air right behind the dline.

Does it only avoid interceptions on contested catches?

ITs basically old school gunslinger or 

Passlead Elite + Current Gunslinger . With the added CPU thing .
