No reason for the harsh message, this is an open forum where people can discuss the game. Ifyou disagree, feel free to provide counter points that are constructive or just move to the next topic.

TY. It actually took longer than I thought for someone to get toxic on this thread but I appreciate you trying to keep it clean
Simple answer is yes.
MUT is now in comic book mode.
Not ruined. But the fact that you have to tackle a guy TWICE on the same play behind the LOS is ridiculous.
I used Quad Father a lot and I didn't even find it fun. No scheme, critical thinking, reaction time, or skill required. Just plow through the first guy and get 5 yards minimum. Hate it.

It adds a layer of strategy that would be missing without. Using the right abilities creates a skill gap, between those who know what they’re doing and those who don’t. should the skill gap be knowledge based? That’s a matter of opinion, but I like that I can play a god squad who uses 2 AP on Gift wrapped or something and i can spend my AP how I want, because even tho better cards get better discounts you can’t pay for higher AP

A couple/few months ago when i had first started playing MUT, i didn't have a ton of cards available, so the few i had the pleasure of choosing from were mostly based off stat decision-making... however, at this late phase in the game, almost all new cards dropped have ridiculously good stats, especially with bonuses and team chems, etc. practically everyone has at or near 99 in relevant / primary stats, so unfortunately abilities are ALL that matter now and i'm having to pass up on cards I want on my roster, such as the Hufanga SS "upgrade" that dropped this week -- lack of 0AP Pick Artist is enough to make (or in this case, break) the card as a viable option.
I'm pumped that they're making the game more accessible for folks, it was extremely overwhelming for me to dive into MUT last fall (we got the $35 Black Friday sale) after not really playing Madden in ~decades, but there has got to be a happy medium somewhere, no? I'd love to think that more than a couple/few cards are actually viable for online gameplay, but it's hyper-competitive if yer not keeping pace with the meta. I got so sick of kids burning me over the top with ridiculous deep ball prayers, that actually were caught more often than i care to recall.
Few things were worse than getting Quadfather/King Henry cheesed. Thankfully that is less and less, but folks seem to be truly sleeping on the Tank, Maniac & Milk Man options for D-line. Nothing else matters, IMO. Those X-factors are everything, it seems.
I am amazed. I didn’t write this much for my school essay...

But it's not FOOTBALL strategy . It's RPG strategy. What ability should I put on my Tank or on my healer, etc. That's what these abilities make you do. If I want to play a game where Im have to figure out what armor, weapons, abilities, skills, etc to put on my avatars (players) , I'd play a game like Borderlands. This is a sports sim. I buy it to play football
When a coach gameplans in the NFL he doesn't look at who gets unstoppable force.lol

good take.
I’d say that it made a huge impact on the game but I don’t think it’s ruined it. It is a bit annoying loading into a game and see 3 X factors on right away

no but perhaps he looks at who can bull rush a tackle or who can start the game more effectively. Besides, secure protectors do actually slow down unstoppable force no matter how much people are claiming they don’t

Besides, if you don’t like the MUT format (as it is admittedly a football RPG) connected franchise exists, as does Regs. I’ve often wondered what a version of MUT that only uses the players cards from regs would look like. 99s existing the whole year, no new cards etc

But then I'd just look at PMV and bull rush traits which is how Madden used to play.
Ability strategy is very different than football strategy and yes I agree that SP slows down UF...sometimes. . But I was running 2-3 UFs and Blitz on Mad Maxx. Not much slowed that down because you couldn't double team all of them
I think the abilities add a extra layer of strategy personally, everybody can be good at the game but can u make the chess moves 2 outsmart ur opponent

I've played it that way......
I've played Madden since 1988 and when Ultimate Team (now known as MUT) first became a mode, you had to use players solely bases on their attributes
