It says from the slot but the description is vague.
Slot means in football inbetween the WR and OT, now idk if it works differently in Madden, as I haven't really used the ability, but if it says from the slot it should work there. If you don't want to worry manually setting your recciever in the Slot, you can go in Strategy and set him in the Slot WR.

This is a great ability for getting separation against man coverage. The downside is that it's 4-6 AP. It's hard to justify spending this much when Short In Elite provides a similar effect for the most common routes that beat man coverage and costs a lot less. However, if you run an offense that involves slot WRs lining up outside of the numbers, Slot-o-Matic is clearly better than Short In Elite. If you can equip Slot-o-Matic for a discount, it can be quite valuable.
it looks like they are saying it is short in and short out in one. Saying it works when your slot wr line up outside.
