I am about a couple months away from achieving my rank of Eagle Scout, and have around 100-150 nights worth of camping (with around 25 nights of backpacking). I will be backpacking for a week in West Virginia this upcoming week, and I just had an ultimatum that after I graduate college, I want to thru hike the whole thing-get away from the chaos of our world and spend half a year in the backcountry. I know this is a long shot but has anyone here have experience in this field?
Hiked the Grand Canyon for 2 days last week. Really my first time hiking anything of any significance. It was awe inspiring. Certainly nothing like the Appalachian Trail. But we can't wait to do more. Wish I had started sooner. So my advice is to go for it. If you hate it, you can always come back. But if you love it, you can start a lot sooner than I did.
