I'm pretty sure there is a slight difference. I believe if you were to race two otherwise identical players the one with 99 speed would reach the end before the one with 98 speed. Now if the videos I've seen of this are accurate the times could be something like 5.03 seconds for the 98 speed player and 5 seconds flat for the one with 99 speed. Now .03 seconds is not a huge difference but it's observable.
You definitely want 99 speed if you can get it but it's not the end of the world if someone is stuck at 98 speed. I think a difference of 3-5 points in speed is when things start to get scary in my experience
I think 99 SPD on DB/WR/RB is necessary at this point. 97-98 SPD can be useable for DE/LB/TE.
I guess if you’re only playing Zone defense then 98 SPD is useable on CB’s.

Figured just wanted to make sure it wasn't a big difference like last year.

I do think you can get away with 98 on an rb as well.

I guess maybe with the x-factor backs you can get away with it. There’s too much speed on 99% of defenses in H2H to get away with 98 SPD on a non x-factor RB.
I don't know what is up with Madden and speed ratings, but holy hell, the angles of pursuit on PS5 are downright ridiculous. I have 99 SPD / 99 ACC players who cannot keep up with opponent halfbacks out of the backfield for whatever reason. It's not just neck and neck, but the opponent will regularly pull away and gain distance on my defenders. This isn't COD, as these are straight line sprints. I don't get it.
I'd love to learn more about how/if and when these stats even work. Sucks that abilities run the entire game, once you are over certain thresholds, it feels liek stats barely matter. However, i know nothing.
