Initial thoughts on M24 (from someone still on old gen)

Hello fellas... 

I've been grinding the game since the drop.  Here are some thoughts on the game so far:

1. The game play is exactly what you'd expect... pretty much the same as last year (which is fine by me).
2. Pass rush is okay... as are contains.  I haven't run into any issues with mobile QBs rolling out which was my big fear from all the streamers initial reactions to the beta.
3. It seems that they STILL HAVEN'T fixed the FG block exploit.  
4. The menu system is the same as it is on current gen but WAY different from M23.  I think the new menus are MUCH more clunky than in past years.  The worst thing is checking prices from your binder... you used to just flip up on the right stick to see all the same cards on the Auction House.  Now it takes you to some intermediate screen which seems minor but the menus are a little sluggish and there's just no reason for such a change.
5. The catalog system is just STUPID (especially when we have the MUCH more useful tools here on MUT.GG).
6. Completing sets is MUCH harder because clicking on a required card in the set no longer takes you to the AH but rather drives you through the catalog system.  Seriously... WTF EA?  This is really annoying.
7. I'm NOT a fan of the new tiny scoreboard!
8. The only difference in the controls is that to "chew clock" or "hurry up" you no longer hit left bumper but rather you push in the left stick.  Seems like a trivial change... but I'm glad all the other controls are the same.  I hate having to retrain my brain when it comes to my adjustments.
9.  Playbooks are the exact same as last year!  I've used the Saints O for 5+ years of MUT and I'm thrilled I don't have to start over in a new book.
10. Lots of players seem to be on the old gen version of the game.  The economy seems normal... and I'm not sitting around waiting for matchups in H2H.

I really wish EA would stop spending resources on things no one is asking for... just give us the ability to save formation substitutions and custom audibles and I would be really happy with the game.  But I think they feel they have to make the game look different to justify people spending their money and getting back on the hamster wheel each year.

4/6 is my biggest gripe and a dumb decision for sure. I get people may not use the site so it gives them something to use but awful.

So far, I like it.  The menus are stupid.  With all the issues of madden 23, menus and scoreboard were not (other than menu lag). We didn’t ask for more dances and celebrations either.  I’m seeing more penalties, which I’m very happy about. 
 

they should have worked on the basic game rather than waste time with things that didn’t need work. They do this every year.  They waste time that could been spent fixing the fundamentals of the game

I’ve enjoyed it. It’s not a life changing upgrade but I’m still going to play and have fun. My only complaint is the removal of your team transferring if you upgrade… seems dumb to take away a feature like that

I haven't noticed more penalties but if that's true it's a good thing.  I really hope they call defensive pass interference more in this year's game to stop guys from bumping my receivers 20 yards downfield.

The user interface is a serious downgrade. I think that's objective fact.

I also don't even understand the point of Catalog yet. 

On the plus side, the Franchise changes are mostly exceptional. The draft process still isn't to my taste (I preferred 21's before the overhaul), but that's a nitpick. Being able to deal several years of picks feels NBA-ish in a good way, and I mean the real NBA, not a video game. 

There's a hilarious glitch in Franchise, though. Sometimes, when a team needs a player, they'll offer you something insane. I had a 75 Tyler Allgeier, and the Bears offered a 91 wide receiver. I took the deal, and then did a test. I could reverse the trade with the WR for Allgeier and a pair of 1st round picks. 

I've had this happen multiple times now. It's just a part of the game, just like Tom Brady randomly un-retiring and appearing as a free agent in 2024-2026, which I think is a hysterical joke on EA's part.

I think the rationale for the catalog is that not all players know about MUT.GG... so they wanted some thing in-game to show every card and it's supposed to show how to get them by taking you to the set or the auction house (but I don't think that's working in the cases I tried).  They should have just added a hyperlink to this website instead of adding something so clunky that I'm sure is part of the menu lag.

I'm strictly a MUT guy... I have never even looked at Franchise Mode in the now 9+ years I've played this silly game.

Fg block glitch being in game 3 years in a row is wild. Other than that it's the same game.

Also playing without abilities is awesome.

Yeah... it's clear EA don't give a F*** about old gen.  Can't wait for this year's version of freeze glitching!

This is most likely the last year for Old Gen Madden.   The writing was in the wall when they didn't fix the FG block glitch when it first happened.  And now that they have separated old gen and new gen profiles/rosters from each other.
