It's damn near mid September. What better two actions to take to force people into the store than to A) Get rid of the Trade Block, the way many acquired coins without buying packs and B) No companion app, as the app allowed many to make millions without spending in the store.
I for one think the companion app is gone. Game is going on a month old.
This raises a good economics question: does the Companion App, by its mere existence, make or take money from EA? Maybe one of the arguments is that since you only have so much time to spend in and around Madden, they want you in the game (rather than the app), b/c that's where you can buy packs. Now, if they outfitted the Companion App to allow the user to buy packs... that'd be dangerous.
Bingo. No way that an app that just kept getting re-skinned from year to year since it launched in Madden '19 was just going to seamlessly integrate auction house activities across separate console gens. I'm sure EA realized this and decided it wasn't going to pay to upgrade the code or actually develop a working alternative, so it just got scrapped. Quietly scrapped, with EA's MUT team delaying the release, saying they're "making fixes," "working out bugs," kicking the can down the road, until a couple of months from now when they tweet that EA "projects that a feature rich companion app will be available for future titles in the Madden series" when they shut down the Madden '23 companion app server.

Right. Way too of us won't admit EA's shortcomings. They've lied to us plenty before. The nerve of us to think that they could be lying again.

The difference is the issue they were investigating was widespread cheating using the trade block
As long as it gets going during Week 1, it’s all good.
Players with jobs have come to rely on the app to stay competitive by making coin.

if you spend money on the game, doing the math your best time to coin ratio is either working at your job or using the companion app. Actually playing madden is the least effective way to make coins which is nuts
