Pre determined selected player pre-snap on defense

This may be a dumb question but what determines the selected player we start out on pre-snap on defense? I know that If you stay on your user throughout the play then you will start on that player again next play but is there anyway to avoid having to cycle thru players using circle ⭕️ (ps5) to get back to the player I want?

Ummm.  If you hold down Cirlcle And then use the left joystick, you can direct to the the player you want to user…

so like if you were on a d lineman.. holding circle and flicking up on the left joystick will take you to a linebacker or safety (depending on your formation or how far/close your linebackers are lined up in the box)

it gets tricky when your opponent goes into bunch or tight formations.  Especially when they go no huddle and you’re trying to make adjustments to their assignment.  And for some odd reason, even if you’re clicked on the player you want to user, if you go through all your adjustments, click on to your user but do it say half a second before the ball is snapped, it forces me to user a d lineman. I don’t understand why that is. So I have to try and get on my user a full second before my opponent snaps. Hope this helps.

There’s also ways to make individual defensive adjustments by never cycling through your defensive players.  It’s a little more advanced.  And if you get a no huddle opponent, tends to be exhausting to keep up with.  I could never figure how to man up a player with that technique so I just never bothered with it.  And use the cycle method.

Thanks I didnt know about holding circle down and directing towards who you want so I’ll start there and see if I can get it how I want.

I have noticed that it will move you around each time you change formations
