Squib kicks? Is this the new mark of the tryhard?

Yep pretty much replacing scum kicking

I haven’t played an online game or seen a stream in more than 3 weeks where every single kickoff wasn’t a squib kick, or, rarely, a sky kick.  Every single game. Either you aren’t playing much head to head or you’ve won the lottery of matchup kickoff luck.  Every single kick in the MCS streamed games were squibs.   

And this isn’t the new try hard. A kickoff to the primary KR is going to get housed at a ridiculously high rate.

I just onside kick

The kick returns for TDs was beyond ridiculous until I did the same squibs everyone else was doing. So naturally I do what works for me.

that field position is tough tho I wanna flip the field. Plus in MCS games you can only onside kick if you’re losing so I play by those rules to practice

Just kick to the left or right side of the end zone, switch the player from the kicker, and use that player to run up the middle of the field, the person at am playing will end up between the 11-20 yard line

I'll squib if I already gave up a big return

I've actually kept it on the kicker until the guy running gets near the scrum.  I've given up more kick sixes when I squib than regular kicks so just look at the KO as a moment I'll let the AI do the work.

…but it doesn’t.  At all.

I’ve been squib kicking online since Madden ’18. Everyone else is just late to the party.
