EA Sports & EA Games splitting apart.

EA is undergoing a major internal reorganization, with EA Games being renamed "EA Entertainment."

Electronic Arts is undergoing a major internal shakeup, announcing today in a message from CEO Andrew Wilson that it is realigning its major studios and its leadership structure in an effort to "empower our creative teams."

The reorganization includes splitting EA Games and EA Sports, with the former being renamed "EA Entertainment" in a signal that EA intends to expand beyond games where possible.

"We’re building the future of interactive entertainment on a foundation of legendary franchises and innovative new experiences, which represents massive opportunities for growth," Wilson wrote in a message announcing the news.

but, but, but. . . what about the "innovative new experiences"?  HA.  It's almost as if they don't drop nearly identical games on us, including bugs that have existed for MANY generations of the game, over and over and over in a pure cash grab.

They did promise a "shakeup" if Madden `24 didn't make the grade, but seems they couldn't wait and decided to spawn a copy of themselves to see who can become more efficient at pushing gambling on kids.  Oof.

I've read that splitting EA Games from EA Sports is a big step towards selling EA Games to  Microsoft, so that all future EA Games releases will be XBox exclusives. That's probably what its about. Corporations don't split on their own because they've got too much of a market share and are worried that consumers don't have options. That's ridiculous.  Like any public company, EA's only motivation is profit. Somehow, the split is designed to add to EA's bottom line.

Of course, of course.  None of that would surprise me one bit.  Why compete when you can just buy everything and avoid giving consumers actual choice.  Sucks that we've gotta rely on Sony to fight against Micro$oft trying to take over the gaming world.  There are no good guys in this battle.  I wouldn't expect an acquisition of this magnitude going without extensive court challenges.  The FTC has the most teeth it's had in recent memory, but Lina Khan is special and has been doing incredibly good work at times.

I grew up in a period when antitrust law was robust and actually doing things to help the consumer, i.e. breaking up Bell Systems into the Baby Bells, but that hasn't happened since i was a small child.  Quite the opposite, in fact.

I bet Xbox is close to buying EA, and I think that would be cool, but I doubt they would be Xbox exclusives just because of how much people there are on Playstation, like what they are doing with Activision. I just wonder if they’ll be able to because they almost aren’t able to buy Activision because they are getting close to being a monopoly

There is absolutely NOTHING cool about this.

If EA were indeed to sell out to Microsoft, that would be a disaster waiting to happen, even if you have a Microsoft console. How in the world is creating an (eventual) monopoly in any way cool?

Just look at the Activision mess for further reference.

Obviously this is just speculation, but if this is the endgame, it's a very BAD one for gamers worldwide should it ever come to pass.

If I put my heart and soul into creating amazing games ie: open world Star Wars games, I too would want no association with the organized crime going on at EA Sports.  But that is just me.

The Star Wars games are so fun. Wish they still supported battlefront 2
