Deep Ball Throwing

Any advice on how to throw/lead deep balls without the opposing DB jumping 60 feet in the air to pick it off? 

I can send Brandin Cooks on a streak, lead the ball so much with touch/lob its almost going out the back of the endzone and he still has to manually run to it, clearly faster/ahead of the DB, yet it will still let the DB jump up and pick it off. Nothing seems to be open anymore even when clearly open. 

Yet when someone does the same to me with their Gronk, Jerry Rice, or Calvin Johnson, my DB is always perfectly behind them/out of range to pick it off, or when I go for the swat, they only just reach their arm up and tackle the WR after they've already caught (and held on) to the ball.

For as much as I do like this game as an improvement over MUT23, the passing inconsistencies are making me want to put this game down for good.
