I think there is a problem with the coding on defense. recently I have been playing with show coverage on so I can see where I am supposed to be with match on. my play art will sometimes suddenly jump from my guy to all the way across the field to a guy I can’t possibly get to in time.

That's match coverage for you. I suggest checking out Zan's video on match coverage post patch. He only goes over cover 4 and the rules that pertain to it, but he does a really good job of it still and makes it pretty easy to break down match coverage in general.
antitwisted said:Yes you do. I personally love Ed Reed and Pinnock and don't really care about Taylor or Krause because of the increased cost with weaker man coverage. Blount could be another option as well I think. You could probably try those options out without making big commitments on your coin stash. Do note, the man coverage threshold is 80 before 90 is the highest tier threshold, whereas zone has thresholds at 80, 85, 90. I think speed is a little more important though. But a guy like Krause or Taylor, yeah..they're gonna get burned with that garbage man. Teo is a bit of a problem for me at times but his job isn't always necessarily to stay manned up either, and I really need him as some run support.
this explains alot, thanks for sharing, makes so much more sense now, what has been happening to be since the patch and moving to more match coverage. I upgraded players for Zone Coverage and never looked at Man Coverage...............that balance makes sense then due to Match basically putting applicable defenders in MEG, never thought about that needing Man Coverage stats since they were in a "Zone" formation...................
Well that's new. Now I literally have DBs being "force fielded" away from their man. Perfect coverage and was even waiting for the pick and then as the ball was in the air, they literally just got scooted away without moving at all.

My problem is the ball is going through my players. They are literally right there for a pick and it goes right through them. Very deflating
Zan has now released more videos about match coverage that explains a lot. Apparently Tampa 2 CAN have match enabled on the vertical hooks once you take away the mid read zone. Very interesting stuff. Match can actually be a hybrid coverage. What a can of worms I've opened up here.
I rarely run zone but when I do I run it with match but even when match does play the correct responsibilities, there are still routes that beat it. Zigs for one. So I only go zone when the opponent needs a chunk of yardage. I personally run Man cvg strat cards, with Humphrey, Cro, Woodson, Porter, and Deion. At Safety I run Troy and Derwin. And at SubLB, Dave Robinson and Isiah Simmons. The only one that does not get up to 90 Man is Simmons but I can user him at SubLB if he's getting torched.
And even still, with as good a coverage defense as you can have, in man or match, they will still get burned fairly regularly, post-patch.

I love Zan's videos. He really breaks it down and makes it easy to understand. Just need to work on remembering who is responsible for who.

Haha. I have a Ferrari, a Porsche, a Lambo, a Toyota and a Honda, and I still have every car break down once in a while because nothing works anymore. (I'm roasting the game, not you, in case that's unclear)

No, I get it! I don't mind the occasional breakdown but I do mind that the Honda drives the same as the Lambo ....

Zan's good people. He understands the game well and his only motive (other than having a successful business of course) is to truly educate and help Madden players. He's been one of the good ones over the years.

I agree, although I don't entirely like his liberal approach to exploiting every glitch he and anyone else can find (even if it does basically simply even the playing field). It's sad that Madden has come to that but as much as EA is easily roasted, I'm not sure it would change if they stepped up their game or there was better competition.

Back on muthead I was in a clan with a guy that used to play the legitly without spamming meta glitches until he got to the point that he just started abusing the glitches to fight fire with fire. I get the sentiment, but by joining in and doing it as well, you're just becoming another part of the problem and fueling the fire. I've always been against spamming the glitch or meta plays. It got annoying when my dollar defense back in m15/16 became the meta. And now it feels like a lot of people spam I pro/close that I started running a lot of back then too once running became somewhat viable.

I hear you..I have ALWAYS sworn by the 46 defense, way before it was cool. I always liked mixing in 3-4 defenses too though. Now everyone is doing the 46 and they JUST patched out one of my favorite things to do in it - audible from 46 normal speed to 46 bear or bear under; plays like wall stunt, LB dogs etc...dead and gone like Justin Timberlake. So I'm back on the 3-4 wagon at this point. Which is fine; it's working well enough for me as far as defense in this game goes.
