For Example Im thinking of buying a LOLB and putting him at ROLB, but if his stats drop I’ll just wait for a better ROLB.

no, the stats dont actually drop, it just effects how the team chemistry is accounted for if you run a TT of any kind

I don’t run any kind of theme team, so it doesnt matter for me?

nope, play them where you want to play them I use brian dawkins as an outside CB for his deep KO ability and his block shed, he beats most receivers and helps defend RPO bubbles really well.

the overall will change but the player will still play up to his stats. I had Derrick brooks playing at mlb said he was an 88 instead of a 91 but that’s the only thing that’s different just for show

Ty homie!
I think there may be an awareness penalty for playing guys OOP, but not sure… thats about it
if u look at the players card here on mut.gg it will actually tell u what ovr they will be when playing oop. and in some cases (especially for linebackers) the ovr will actually go up
I'm wondering what it is in the game code that causes their OVR to decrease though ? are stats being impacted we can't see visually ? something has to be happening to cause the big drop from LG to RG or ROLB to LOLB ...

They won’t drop thankfully, though the overall may drop or increase, it doesn’t decrease/increase the stats.

yeah ik cuz why do kickers have like 50 ovr at when they play punter?
If you look at the awr ratings in the depth chart in game it drops by a significant amount. Would kind of make sense if it does affect them in game. Because sometimes it seems like my players just dumb out.

I read somewhere that Awareness drops. If that’s the case, the card’s performance should be impacted, since it’s an important stat to all positions, but I keep seeing people telling there’s no impact at all. I honestly don’t know 🤷♂️

This is an extremely common question and super misleading the way EA decided to present this information. As i'm sure others have already stated, players (both stats & abilities) do not change, regardless of position. However, be aware that stamina and fatigue are a HUGE issue at the moment, so you may notice that your guys are tired, regardless of natural position or otherwise... at which point, their in-game performance will suffer tremendously.
People are "abusing" this by running extremely heavy tackles or O-linemen and TEs, such as Trent Brown (380 pound LT) and Dawand Jones (374 pound RT). However, you should not have any issue running a LB left or right. The only thing that suffers would be your ability to add additional team chemistries, if that is something you even care about. I've had TJ Watt playing both left and right LB spots, as well as LE at times. He only gets LOLB (natural position) and ROLB (secondary position), so no Zero Chill team chems for me if i run him on the D-line, say at Rush Left End (RLE) in our Specialists tab.
Don't allow the OVR rating on players to guide your roster moves... it does NOT matter one bit. Some people just get off on seeing numba go up. I guess it's liek watching the stock market, i don't know. I'd much rather focus on trying to min/max and extract the most performance for my squad, regardless of how much my team OVR ratings drop. What actually matters is how players behave on the field.
Lets say you have Watt at LB in you depth chart for the chem but then in game sub him into a Dline end spot, will it drop the chem off the whole team or change his stats at all? or is it just on depth chart where you have that issue?
