Between both gens ive faced the same issues. Vernon Davis and Dave Casper double me. Even if I stuff the run, the combination of other routes is unstoppable. Is defense even playable anymore?
The only thing that works for me on the defensive side (keep in mind I'm not really good and have no desire to try and make a ton of adjustments) is to send the house (blitz 5-7 every play)...If I get a sack or two and have them in 3rd or 4th and really long...then I will go to a smaller less aggressive defense and play coverage. This technique does not result in a high win percentage for me...but...the games tend to be fast so I don't have to waste much time playing against the same plays...over and over again.
unless it’s a sweat, then yes you can get stops on defense. adjust your coverage based on the opponents offense and mix up play calls.
most people run the same few plays and/or throw to one side of the field.
also depends on thr abilities you’re running. I use KOs along with colosus/blitz on my 4-man line and i do fairly well as an average player

Yeah I run KOs but even then they're still catching it. 50/50 if it works or not. I've gotten casual stops yeah but against sweats it's just... hell

I'm honestly a little surprised to see this, lately i'm finding that defense has gotten quite a bit easier with all the Zone KOs. How have you invested your abilities on defense? i would highly encourage you to spend the bulk of AP on DBs, in the form of Deep + Mid Zone KOs whenever feasible.
If you're running Man coverage, that Double Me ability will instantly cook any type of Man Press. Zone defense is the meta for a reason, the abilities actually work and typically cost less than Man equivalents. Sideline routes are impossible to break up, the game will count it as a catch, regardless of how many times you break these up, oof.
Eventually I'll remove my D-line X-factors, but for now, we're still not seeing folks running Secure Protectors across the entire O-line, so i've got one Unstoppable Force (Sapp) and one Colossus (George).
Mid zone KO is underrated for sure. Def should have it on one of your CBs and/or your Sub LB.
I would go for one X factor on your d line to keep your pass rush somewhat involved. Look for 0 ap buckets with Sugar Rush p2 and 3

It's sad that we need abilities to make our defense do anything. It's like they just completely gave up

So sad, but oh so very true, oof. I still think the most egregious is how awful the pass catching is, need Gift-Wrapped on our QBs even at this late stage in the year, linebackers are essentially unusable without LurkArtist, DBs merely swat at the ball without Pick Artist, liek they're chasing away mosquitoes. The fuck, our professional athletes need magic powers just to catch the damn ball. And how many times did EA attempt to patch pass catching this year before eventually admitting failure and reverting all these attempted changes to catching.
And don't get me started on the stamina/fatigue nonsense. Decent idea, but they've never demonstrated any ability to get the basics coded in the game and they definitely aren't wasting time testing these updates. Maybe it's best if they just leave things alone, but there's just so much basic gameplay shit that needs fixing.
At least there's a decent chance they botch Egg roll out again this year, I got hooked up last year with Easter Egg glitch.
I actually prefer playing defense to offense. It definitely is the more cerebral part of this brainless coding disaster we call madden. On offense, a smart player will run a concept that will beat most coverages based on 3 reads, it is also so easy to bomb on cov 3 and 2, and abuse curls vs cov 4. Just too mundane.
Completely agree with earlier comments. Outside corners and safeties need Deep Zone KO and Mid Zone KO, Slot needs Mid Zone KO and Flat Zone KO. Throw Lurk on all your LBs and put Mid Zone KO on whoever you let play zone. Hit them with some Unstoppable Force/Colossus X-factors on the ends and Inside Stuff on the DT and you should be good.
That's my setup and I basically run a basic cover 4 out of zone and completions are few and far between.
