Great question, hard to choose just one. For late game play, Billy Johnson has continued to show up and excel at returning kicks (nobody punts, otherwise i'm sure he'd be excellent here, as well) -- but a large part of that is due to the sheer number of Vanguard players we can get on the field. I end up running around (or past) so many pancaked bodies littering the field, half the time I might as well be skipping down the yellow brick road on my way to Oz. Numerous untouched kickoff returns for clutch six, which often can change the entire course of a game, especially those defensive struggles.
Caleb Jones is absolutely unreal, on both sides of the ball. Not the most elite pass catcher, but he'll get the job done in a pinch. Best USER in Madden in recent memory, not sure you can improve upon this card in any way.
Joe Montana cards are absolutely elite, but especially when paired with an always active Dots passive ability. That Traditional 1 release is THE best in the entire game, even superior to Traditional 4, which many regard as being the best. However, this is me showing my personal biases. I didn't get to use him (at all) on my main account, due to lack of final Redux. That pack showed up in the market over the weekend and i was ready to throw money at them. Sadly, seems it wasn't meant to be.
Some honorable mentions from earlier in the year, in no particular order:
- Kurt Warner (All-Madden 91 OVR): first player of the year on my squad that had a velocity ability, he won me a lot of games
- Superbowl CMC: elite pass catcher that could do it all, he was absolutely JUICED on my squad with full 50/50 49ers team chems. Always active YAC `Em Up was nutty before folks had Secure Tackler / Tackle Supreme
- George Karlaftis and/or Warren Sapp: combo here, because both were exceptional on the D-line, with always-active X-factors (a sign of things to come)
- Bo Jackson: where wasn't he great? I never used the HB, but QB and ROLB were both fantastic.
