Am I the only one not super excited for 84s being the top cards? Kinda crappy to be opening packs hoping for an 84. Mentally there was something more appealing about 87 and 88s
Not surprising as they keep dialing back every year to maximize their pack sales. 84s being max makes people dip into their wallets even quicker once 85+ drop and makes a nms team more "crippled" throughout the start of the year to try and force them to spend $.
If they stopped spending 95% of the development focusing on ways to force us to buy packs with their greedy ways and put that effort into actually developing the game, we might have a half decent football game.
I used to get excited to see how many Bills players got core elites but now it’s looking like we may get 1 or possibly 2.
And I don’t want to chase 70s

There's a flip side to this problem. If your favorite team's top players AREN'T included in these reveals, you can get excited for them to be prohibitively expensive when dropped in an early program - only to become quickly irrelevant afterwards. I'm a Packers TTer, so I was super thrilled to drop a bunch of loot on Jordan Love's 84 HL card (only to have the Aaron Rodgers 88 UK card come the following week). I don't know why I chase my TT so early in the year; you can't get to 50/50 before mid-season anyways.
It's just to further screw over Rookie Premiere cards. Don't worry, 85-86's will be available like 3-5 days after people finally get their RP cards!
I like that this might mean it will take more time before we see the top 99 rated players.
However, I have a feeling this is more a business decision from EA than a gameplay decision, to ensure the players engage in the newest promo, packs, etc. Who knows we may even see the same type of "Season 1 88-90 overall players" we saw in CFB on day 1, only being available in packs (hopefully not glitched packs), which I really didn't like.
But personally I still like the change on first sight. Time will tell how it turns out.
On a side note this makes the 83 pre-order D-hop and Honeybadger look a lot better.
Why are they dialing it back again? Last year was fine as far as the progression goes. I got out right after playoff promo and I never had a 99 OVR on my team. They keep doing this I may never have a 99 OVR card again.

I’d be cool with them slow playing the overalls but within a week of release there will be 86s. So it’s almost like they get people to spend a ton of money during launch for 84s, that are obsolete quickly. Back in the day an 87-88 Tyreek Hill would be a problem for a while. Lately they’ve released the +1 LTDs and it immediately clamps him down.
Headliners were 87 a week after the game dropped last year. I’m sure we will get 86s and 87 LTDs relatively quickly

The why should be plainly obvious at this point, as others have begun to point out -- $$$, everything is about generating pack sales. Because why would anyone enter a highly regulated gambling industry, when you can exploit literal children in a wholly unregulated space. All you need to do is pretend these are NOT "loot boxes" or games of chance, they're just fun little surprises, right? No different than putting 25 cents into a gumball machine for a small chance at your favorite team's plastic miniature NFL helmet. OOF. Obviously that could not be further from the truth. These random cards have massive impact on the overall state of the game. Keeping them rare/exclusive earns EA more money.
Am i dating myself here with this reference? I had a box full of these awesome things and used to line them up to create my own little game, prior to getting an Atari 2600.
This will allow a better pace to the game. The problem is the cost to keep up has grown too much.
If NMS was a viable option to keep up I would enjoy this. I’m not NMS, however, I could spend a reasonable amount to keep up vs what’s being expected.
Not going to be getting M25 for awhile.
Get the game in December or playoff time where the game is in full swing. Only dupes and spineless kids get this game and spend thousands on an 87 overall 😂
By that time the no skill bums will be gone cuz they complain the game is getting too hard

I got a kid “jamescrond” in my thread who begs to differ
Says the game is at its best early when it’s easy and novice mode, not in full swing in December or January so it’s right and ok to spend thousands on an 87 And think you’re good at madden 😂

Well James sucks too. His butthole is likely gapping from EA railing him on the thousands.
