Zone Match

Did they get rid of it? whats the deal

Select a match play out of the formation, say big nickel and cover 3 match. Or cover 4 palms etc. That's it. And then don't alter the seam routes in any way, such as shading under or over, or it will remove match and make them play zone. And probably quite terribly.

really? its feels like every zone i call is match, ill have two people running with one wr, leaving a zone un attended. its so weird and annoying

Man this is crazy, I'll see guys just be so stubborn to stay in their zone that it's more important to them than actually covering something useful. I have to use match to even make anything work at all. I find it fixes some problems with zone for me, although I have to mix it up so my opponents don't know what I'm doing. It's the only way I've made any defense work at all.

yeah every zone play i run people leave their assignments and play like man, and all i do is press and tell em to play underneath, next thing i know they're running across the field with a man, and its crazy because its literally every zone play in the raiders play book they do it so far. if i could turn off match i would, but it wouldnt help the defense has the iq of a potato, some times they like stutter step when a ball is thrown right at them so they take their own self out the play

Man that is so bizarre, I have never seen zone play like that. I don't mean to sound like an ass but are you sure you're calling zone plays because if you are I'd be interested in comparing what you're doing to what I was doing. My guys are so damn stubborn they will stay in their zone rather than stay with a guy who is clearly going to get wide open for a big gain. When I go zone they play absolutely nothing like you're describing at all. What kinda formations and play calls are you running here?

yeah ive tried to run cover 4, out of 2-4, 6-1, 2-3 and every time they chase the wrs. i get burnt all the time. its insane. and the play doesnt say match. cover 3 does it also, so far the only zone ive ever ran is tampa 2 that doesnt chase but i only call it in the redzone

Cover 4 I think is always match by default but it's easily thrown into zone with things like shade underneath or above etc. I don't typically run those formations though other than 6-1 occasionally. I'm not sure if somehow certain formations behave differently or what but this has me thinking, maybe the answer to defense is some formation nobody ever plays...this is interesting.

yeah ive ran threw all of all the raiders play book, 6-1,2-4,2-4 dbl mug, 3-3-5 odd and mug. big nickel, dime 2-3, 4-4 and it just seems like all my zones play match, idk why, ive looked for match settings, i want it off. its killing me sometimes, the wide open corner routes because i have a corner and a safety chasing the same wr drives me to insanity. this is honestly the least amount of fun ive ever had in madden, especially when its only week 2. every online game is a shoot out, who ever messes up first will lose. personally all my game are shoot outs, determined by a bad throw or a fumble. then to see if im crazy i go to youtube and watch the mcs tournament videos, and guess what, same thing, theyre scoring on every play, the only way someone loses is a fumble, or a missed 2 pt conversion its crazy rn. its a football game but youre playing 11 vs 0 it feels like

I noticed that yesterday when I was watching the MCS. 50+ point games. No defense what so ever. People out here buying defense e-books too. Talk about free money!

yeah its crazy. IDK how EA can look at the state of defense right now and be happy, even with the best of the best playing, they cant even get a stop. what do they expect us average players who arent playing for a million to do, have every game be 70-68. yeah its cool the first day, but it get boring when every game goes 50 plus both sides

It is disappointing yeah. I always liked the theoretical side of things even though I'm not great at it or anything but knowing which coverage shells to apply to a formation etc is the kind of stuff that should be rewarded. But right now defense just doesn't cooperate. Maybe when the coverage ratings improve and we get omg, 90 zone or man it'll get better. Even still, this is pretty bad.

But I'm wondering if you somehow have some sort of glitch and maybe this somehow factors into why defense doesn't play right. If some of your guys are stuck in match when it should be zone...wtf...maybe everyone has a glitched out defense in some way and it isnt working right anywhere haha.

Ok, not to reply too much or anything, but I've been running more zone and I actually DO see what you mean about defenders playing it like match and not staying in their zone. So it isn't just you. But it's not consistent either because there are times they stay in their zone and times they follow a receiver, usually very poorly and way behind like any form of man coverage in M25. It's very strange.

yeah its weird, idk what triggers it, or how to get it to stop, ive tried manually  shading inside, and outside, evening showing blitz, they still do it. it absolutely drives me insane because they wont even be in play on the dude they follow they're basically playing trail but they wont ever catch up, yet the sideline or the deep half theyre suppose to be guarding gets left wide open, and you can chase it down. it really feels like you have to run man coverage right now or else.
