Free cards were good, you were rewarded for being good and winning (once made 2 mill in 1 night off a 20 game streak and I remember it since it was to buy the team diamonds master), and the introduction of abilities made the game so fun as there were offensive abilities that were broken (like HJ and Evasive) but defensive abilities to counteract it (like Enforcer)

Aye, didn't get back into Madden until M22 cycle, no MUT til M23.  I'm basically a n00bster, with huge gaps in my recent Madden historical knowledge.  The good side was that i wasn't forced to learn a new next/current generation of the gameplay when everyone upgraded to PS5 consoles.  As far as that is concerned, my timing was decent.

M20 was the Eric Dickerson year, or?  What else have i missed in my time away from our beloved "simulation" fatball franchise?

Yes, madden 20 was the Eric Dickerson year. Now I know that sounds bad and ED was annoying to play against but it was swiftly nerfed to only being active for 5 plays (EA actually kinda cared about what the community had to say)

The physics were nothing like what you are accustomed to coming back with new gen. LBs could turn on a dime and HJ made players basically defy physics. But this is in my opinion what made the game more fun

With abilities like HJ, Streak Specialist, Bruiser (yeah power backs got crazy animations in MUT 20), Escape Artist, and Enforcer (Enforcer in mut 20 made the AI automatically hit stick so you could switch off and he'd just blow someone up which was super broken) the game was actually fun

Plus we got 2 free GTs, a TOTY master, and a bunch of free cards that were actually really good which rewarded NMS players. Gold 99s also actually meant something as they got 4 ability slots over 3 (blue 99s did not get the 4th ability slot). Some OOP players that came out around Christmas or players who simply didn't get cards ended up also getting "power up expansions" which allowed you to power them up a 98-99 (with training) without them having gotten a card from a new drop

And then Superstar KO. This game mode was so fun with the Legends and GTs. You drafted 3 players on offense and defense that had a certain rarity (higher the rarity the more abilities). The Legends and GT cards instead of the standard 4 abilities of a purple got like 20 abilities which couldn't even happen in MUT so you could just have fun with the players you draft

Did you look at he field pass?

I see a few player, but only a way to upgrade 1 of them above an 87. They show us stats for 89, but the lower levels are really horrible strength, speed, etc.

The ticket store doesn't have the last 2 levels that were advertised. Only one on the field pass.

The XP we got from season 1 only gets us a pack (70, 71 & 73 OVR).

It looks pretty bad to me.

Thank you for detailing, i'm only vaguely aware of the community's reaction to some of these specific titles / game years -- i absolutely LOVE to hear about the sheer fun factor.  I probably wouldn't mind abilities so much if they were used to actually enhance gameplay, not as things stand now, where abilities are basically a requirement, or crutch to fill in gaps in broken gameplay.  For example, why do we need velocity abilities (SFL/PLE) on QBs?  Shouldn't Throwing Power be what determines how hard / fast /f far a specific player or card can heave the ball downfield?

EA will continually remove features over the years, then we're all expected to heap tons of praise on them for doing the bare minimum -- oh yeah, linebackers are usable again this year without needing LurkArtist.  So much of this stuff seems basic, but what the hell do i know, i'm just some grumpy old man.

Was hoping to try 6 vs 6 game modes, but at this point i hope to just retire and move on with my life, rather than waiting and hoping that EA figures it out someday.  How's Season 2 looking to you?  I just reviewed patch notes, will probably log on tonight finally to check in on things.  Maybe.  I probably would have saved most of my S1 tickets if i had known they were going to carry over to season 2.  Having a couple 87s would have been a really big deal to my squad right now.  But i'm the asshole for thinking some simple communication is possible... that requires effort, to post a blog or fire off a tweet.  Bleh.

This is practically how madden 20 did it. You could only activate 3 players on each side of the ball and stock players without abilities could actually do things. Another cool thing they had was John Madden as coach. They had a competitive currency that could either be used to buy coins (used to be a choice between a touchdown pack or 75k for like 200 of the currency) or you could save them up for John Madden and his tokens (cost like 1000 a piece). Madden at coach gave insane boosts that greatly helped your team which was nice (like the combine line boost or TTAS boosts depending on what chemistry you chose). Only knock is the fact that escape artist was practically required on your QB to be able to scramble

It wasn't like you needed to use your x-factors on LBs either as LBs jumped just like safeties in MUT 20 and weren't a hindrance if they had no abilities

I think season 2 is decent. Honestly liked how CFB did the season pass better as they have bound packs that had very high odds for high tier players which again rewarded nms players. I definitely would've saved some season tokens as well if I had known they'd carry over (I spent all of them on random things after maxing out my players because I thought they'd reset)

Spoiler alert, it's bad Gameplay is bad, no matter how good the content is. Nothing is worth it if gameplay is bad, and gameplay has never been worse

I hate how I grinded to get the season 2 xp token and got only 10k xp

Do you guys think they’ll bring back 50/50 theme team eventually?? Or maybe they stay 20/20s to create hybrid teams or some shiiiii?? Can someone plzzz lemme know, wud b very much obliged!!

I am excited that we got some truly decent freebie cards in Season 1, the fully upgraded Hines Ward and Maxx Crosby are still on my squad to this day.  That is a rare and beautiful thing, in past years the cards were all but unusable, so minor improvement (hate giving EA props for doing the bare minimum, we should expect that free cards are viable on most squads) -- however, will your guy Kirko Chainz be better than the JJ McCarthy that is already in-game?  I guess that TOTW boost goes away shortly, regardless.  Maybe.  Did the Season of BOOM strategy card ever expire?  EA regularly sets dates/times to end things, but then conveniently "forgets" or whatever.

Low key hate free players during season pass. Makes it to where I play the same players over and over again, wish we had some kind of power up system, a little like they had before, that would let us upgrade one or two of our favorite players through season pass tokens or something. Would make it really interesting and we would see some variety in line ups. I wil take it though can't beat free I suppose

I would have really liked it if we could use season 2 tickets on the new season 2 players or the season 1 players.

I like Ward, McCaffrey, Ray Lewis, Maxx & Alstott better than what was offered in season 2 and it would have been great to have the option to continue to upgrade Season 1 players. Maybe EA can give us these options in the future if they continue to stick with the ticket reward system? It may also result in more variety when playing head-to-head versus others?

Curious myself. I was up to 35 on my vikings tt. Then realized 20 was the cap. Thought season 2 would of bumped it up a bit. 🤷‍♂️
