Like whats the point of having 88 speed, when you get chased down by DBs with 85 or lower speed

This rationalization makes sense until you see Max Crosby chase down your 90 speed Xavier Worthy from behind on the first play of the drive lol
First snap for the players for that matter. This clearly involves a random factor, and while I understand the rationale, it only introduces yet another glaring RNG experience that alters the result of games regardless of player skill.
EA gives speed boosts to players with any kind of angle depending on difficulty level. Been that way for years.

If the defender is running on an angle, hes actually going further then a RB on a straight line...so they would need a lot higher speed to catch the RB, even with a good pursuit rating

It depends on where the defender is relative to the ball carrier, if the defender is 10-15 yards of the line, he'd have a much shorter run than the ball carrier.
