Naive question about ROLBs and LOLBs

I just starting getting into MUT late last year and still consider myself somewhat new, so please excuse the somewhat naive question here:

I'm a huge Niners fan and I loved Charles Haley back in the day. So great to see him in MUT, but here's what I don't understand. When I plug him in at LOLB, with most of the defenses that I play (Nickle and Dime), only the 2 MLBs are on the field. He's on the field in the rare times I go 4-3, but the overarching question I'm asking is: how do I get my stud LOLB on the field more often?

I'm running the 49ers defensive playbook if that helps. Thanks all!

Put him in at sub lb. should Be in the specialist screen

Or just sub him in. While in game go to the formation you want to be in hit triangle on playstation and itll bring up the sub menu. Cycle thru until you get to where you want him, hit X and then choose him from list of available subs

In that scenario, for example, I would be subbing him in for Ray Lewis at MLB. Does that mean that Haley gets a reduced overall rating because he wouldn’t be going in at his natural position?

ive never noticed it and i play several people out of their normal positions. Just for a warm fuzzy feeling a player like haley has secondary position chems MLB being one of them. So you could spend the 500 training and equip that on him.

The LOLB is first off the field in sub packages. If you put him at sublb he’ll be one of the 2 in the middle.

In 3-4, depending on the specific nickel/dime set you’re running, both OLB’s can disappear unless you put them as your rush ends. Figuring out 3-4 for the first time myself this year. Always been a 4-3 guy but got that Flores Fever now so trying out the treatment.

As I’m learning I think I have part of this wrong. I just upgraded my OLB’s to LT/AVG (someone listed AVG at like 360k and I jumped, I was gonna wait till Wednesday) and I put AVG as LOLB (secondar position chem) and RLE and he was on the field instead of LT in most of my subpackages. So at least in my playbook I’m putting my better OLB (LT) at RLE. I’ll leave AVG at LOLB and let them flip sides and move around a bit.

Mostly unrelated but somewhat related, I also picked NTL because I love him as a slot corner. His 85 zone is perfect for the purple zones he’ll be in there and his throwback toughness is great in the run game. I have 90 zone Dejean/Douglas on the outside for the deep blues but considering bumping NTL up to CB1 and keeping him at Slot Cb1 so he’s on the field in base packages instead of Douglas and moving inside in sub package. I’m not in base packages a ton but Douglas is not a run defender and gets washed when I am. DeJean is decent enough and free. NTL/Blount/Rod Woodson/Lott are generally my favorites for CB in MUT but that Blount card isn’t in my buy price range yet and it’d be tough to give up a 90 zone outside corner for an 85.
