anti double-mug defensive players

what formation has been the most successful for getting that close bunch formation off the field. without cheesing 4 men thru for pressure i have trouble stopping the zig/inside trail route combo until i get in the red zone.

When I run onto that combo I'll call cover 2 and shade my coverage underneath the zig runs right into the underneath coverage and I'll just sit in the middle of the field with my user and wait for the trail route. I like to send pressure to hurry up the decision making to hopefully force a mistake

why not adjust and run a different formation?

I just hate that we're back to where Zig is tearing up the defense and the cure for it leaves you open to corner routes.

yup I refuse to to run cover 2 unless i’m the 20 this year. easiest way to give up a bomb if you don’t send pressure.

i use chiefs playbook. i can’t get my boundary defenders to play the zig unless i user it but a good player sees that and just start flooding the same side of the field to attack the levels. i guess i’ll try db fire 2 for a bit.

thank you. do you call this from a 3 or 4 man front?

I literally run cover 2 man all game, using diff shades, adjusting my safeties in diff coverages or leave them stock.  I play gauntlet and ranked/mut champs.  usually my comp is all top 100 ppl.  You won’t believe how many of the top players cannot beat basic man coverage.  Granted my corners are gonzo, joey porter, jaire so you do need top end corners to run this scheme.  you gotta be able to user really well, downside is I do this out for dollar so my user is blitzed so I can get a pass rush, which means I cannot switch stick.

thank you. good man coverage is a problem i can’t lie. it’s a hefty price tag/skill gap for elite man corners. i try that with my core i’m giving up 200 yards first quarter.

its bend but dont break defense, you’ll give up yards but they will also throw into tight coverage giving you opps to get a pick, just gotta capitalize on them

Depends if they come out under center or shotgun under center i like to have a 4 man front shot gun 3 man front

it ain’t work out too well lol. do you base align and do you put your best corner in the slot or outside? i don’t have time to lab and adjusting online is quite the learning curve 😂

I dont base align and yes I have my best corner in the slot, its not perfect defense, Ive defnitely gotten burnt over adjusting at times

thank you for the responses. i’ve been doing better against that close bunch so i appreciate it.  i see what you meant by user is key. you need to take away the first read after figuring out their tendencies.
