The premium pass benefits should have been added for free, for everyone, as a customer appreciation/make right.
The way EA presents this, if you don't buy it, you're reminded every time you level up that you will never have a competitive team unless you serve up the $$$.
Not sure why anyone is surprised by this move. This has been prevalent in many live services games for many years. The concept itself isn't bad, but the implementation could be better. It doesn't stop NMS from getting the standard rewards as usual, but as expected does reward spenders with extras (which is perfectly fine). The main delta with this premium pass versus say Call of Duty, is that Call of Duty allows for the earning of in-game currency (COD points, which are the equivalent of MUT points) throughout the pass. So in that implementation, it's a one time buy and you can freeroll all future passes (and even stack some extra points each season for other items if wanted). I think if EA made this change and put 1,500 (or maybe 1,700-2,000) MUT points in the path, then this would be significantly more community friendly.

COD also doesn’t gatekeep XP, and you can reasonably assume major issues will be hot patched pretty fast.
im not buying this crap from EA, and this may very well be the final nail in the coffin for me

I wasn't trying to sell it to anyone. Just comparing and contrasting the model with other live-service games for anyone that isn't familiar. This was inevitable.
Although with that said, I don't agree with the take that this really impacts anyone that doesn't buy it. MUT has always been a money spending mode first and foremost. The same argument applies to the part of the community that buys bundles and special offers. You either spend time or money to get ahead in MUT....choice is for the user.
Well deserved for the people whom promote YouTubers that spend points like crazy opening packs. Now you can pay to do the same to keep up!
I hate this paywall shit too and other games are worse because you can just buy the lvls but games have been heading this way for awhile now. Honestly the concept to me started in world of Warcraft when players started paying other players to run them through dungeons Or when players started selling gold. all games are going to have a field pass or lvl pass and eventually EA is going to allow players to buy all levels.
Yes, the battle pass is still there for free but there are better rewards for the premium version

While I'm still casually engaged with the game (for now), after numerous failed attempts, breaks, etc. I've finally managed to scale way back. Trying not to spend any more money, gonna ride out the season and hopefully skip next year.
I'm sure I'll try again if/when the league opens up the bullshit exclusive licensing agreement with EA, assuming I live that long. We're going on what, twenty years now? 😡
Looking forward to see what is in today's patch, but nothing can or will truly change until we, the consumer, get some other NFL "simulation" games to choose from.
