Whats the point of presents coins wise?

Do you actually make coins off these.  Have played Madden since 18 and haven't bought one present.  The XL present for example cost around 400k to buy.  Is it guaranteed to make more from what's in it ?

 Just curious because I'd love to join in if I'm missing out.
