This is sorta lame in my opinion. I’ve opened up all 15 XL gifts between the resets and this is the only set of 5 where I’ve pulled one. Seems like more of a glitch in my opinion.

That's the way all packs in MUT work. 95% of the time, you will not pull anything equal to the price of the pack. In your example, what you are paying the 3k snow for is the CHANCE to pull a present work 8k snow.

What do we all do? let me pull one more special offer or a few more packs/rolls just to see if they're hot. Chasing a card or the high of pulling a ultra rare card.
Yes. You can lose snow in the presents for each option. We used to have rerolls that allowed you to keep rolling for hours. Those days are over. The longer you roll today the more you will lose.
For my math nerds:
People will drop a little over 1 million coins worth of snow (~15,500 snow) and lose 50% of it in only 3 XL snow rolls. For example, let's say in those same three XL rolls you pulled two 3000 snow presents and maybe one 2k snow present . Then, you try to chase your losses even more by QSing your 8,000 snow to roll in mystery and large presents. See my point about chasing your losses. Congratulations, you just paid over a million coins for 5 unopened (MF, Unstoppable, Blitz presents that QS for 360 snow a piece) and maybe 3 or 4 Medium to Large ZC presents.
Based on odds I bet the five old promo presents will be +82 cards that go for 4-6k right now and the 3 to 4 ZC presents are +87-90 overall ZC cards that will tank ugly on Xmas. You'd be lucky to net 260-360k coins after taxes. You would need to get lucky and pull one or two 93 Ghost or ZC card in the medium or large presents just to lose 50% of your coins. Not even to break even.
