Please see question in subject. Thanks!
Impact Blocking comes into play whenever a block takes place between moving players in the open field. Think about a FB leading the way and setting a block on a linebacker while they're both in motion. This could also be a lineman that doesn't have a defensive line assignment, so he goes to the next level to block a linebacker or safety while he's in motion.
It depends on your scheme how important this is. If you're a heavy runner, it obviously matters a lot more than if you pass 90% of the time. If you use a FB as a lead blocker, you'll want him to have decent IBL. It can also be nice on pulling guards who get up to speed as they cross the formation to pick up work on an outside run.
I hope this helps!
Appreciate it ! I am trying to fill my offensive line with good pass protectors , i was looking at abraham lucas and this is what got me wondering about it... Any tips would be super appreciated!
so far lookin at tyron smith , kolton miller, thurney, and wirfs , maybe ab lucas.... if i can save any coin and still not lose on pass protection or if there is something else you can suggest please let me know !
Best,
Impact block is one of the most important DEFENSE stats (that's straight from an interview with Cliff Oldenburg) and it's remarkable how few people know that.
For any defensive player that isn't literally on the line, Impact block is vastly more important than blockshedding. All of your safeties, Linebackers, even cornerbacks.

I’ll tell you this, the new kearse is on the line on the edge with 45 impact blocking at a 92 overall and he gets destroyed every run play

Best,
So does impact block and blockshed both effect the shed attempt in that situation in some way or is impact block the only stat that matters in these situations?
