This is very annoying. I’m currently at a 75 overall and I’m playing H2H to get rewards, and I’m getting put up against people who are basically maxed at the moment, and it’s basically impossible to win.

It's EAs grand strategy to get people to buy packs to get better players to make you think you have a chance to be great.
Best bet is to do the challenges and get free players to build your team up and save up coins to build on.
It is sad that there is no fairness with overall teams to play each other.

yeah it match makes by your division first and then expands outward. So many people have insanely high rated teams no matter what division they’re in, but you’re also likely playing a division up as well.
Its kind of a nightmare but I’d recommend playing squads for H2H challenges and just choose head coach. Don’t be that guy that plays defense or offense with a 75 rated squad lol
