Happy holidays Madden fans! Last week we gave you our best defensive lineup available in Madden Ultimate Team, and we’re doing the same for the offense this week. Here are our picks and our reasoning:
Best Offensive Players in MUT 23
LT: 94 OVR Joe Thomas (Powered Up)
The most important thing to look for in an offensive tackle is Edge Protector for 1 AP (or maybe 0 AP in the future). It is by far the best way to buy time for your QB and counter all of the Edge Threats out there. Of the left tackles that can get Edge Protector for 1 AP, we feel Joe Thomas is your best option if you power him all the way up. If you want to save some coins though, there are cheaper options that can also equip Edge Protector for 1 AP.
LG: 93 OVR Alan Faneca
It’s pretty obvious that Faneca is the best LG currently available in MUT. He has great run-blocking and pass-blocking ratings, but his ability discounts are amazing. He can equip Puller Elite for 0 AP if pulling-guard runs are a staple of your offense. If you’re sick of facing Dollar, you could go with 1 AP Nasty Streak instead and crush linebackers and safeties down the field in the run game. If you’re new to MUT and want to establish your run game, consider picking up the Run The Rock starter pack that contains Faneca and a full run-first offense.
C: 93 OVR Jeff Saturday (Powered Up)
Like Faneca, Saturday also has great run-blocking and pass-blocking ratings, along with great ability discounts if you power him all the way up. Saturday can equip Secure Protector for just 1 AP to help the interior of your offensive line hold up under pressure. You might be wondering why Jason Kelce isn’t here, and you’re right, he’s a great option. His biggest asset is 0 AP Nasty Streak, which requires getting past the defensive line for it to activate. At center, that just doesn’t happen very often. If you have Kelce and like to run the ball, consider sliding him over to either guard position for better results.
RG: 95 OVR Will Shields
Shields is both a great run-blocker and a great pass-blocker. He has some of the best ratings of any lineman in MUT. The best part about Shields is that he can equip Secure Protector for 1 AP in its own slot, and then your choice of Identifier (1 AP), Post Up (1 AP), or Recuperation (0 AP) in another slot. He’s quite expensive (~600,000 coins on all platforms), but he very well could be on your squad for the rest of the year.
RT: 94 OVR Ryan Ramczyk
Just like left tackle, you’re looking for 1 AP Edge Protector in your right tackle. Ramczyk is one of only two players that has it at his position. The other is Tristan Wirfs, and if you’re on a budget or just have other priorities, Wirfs is a great option too.
TE: 95 OVR Taysom Hill
There are several great tight ends in MUT, but we feel Taysom Hill is the best right now. What he lacks in height (6’2”) when compared to other tight ends, he makes up for in ratings and ability discounts. He leads all tight ends in the following ratings: speed (93), short route running (95), break tackle (95), carrying (93), juke moves (94), and spin moves (93). He’s a beast after the catch. Hill is also the only TE that can equip Short In Elite for 0 AP and he can also equip TE Apprentice for just 1 AP in a separate slot. If you’re all about high-ball aggressive catches, Parham is your guy, but for anything else, Taysom Hill is probably your best option.
WR: 95 OVR Herman Moore
Moore is 6’4” and he’s currently tied for the fastest WR in Madden Ultimate Team with Marvin Harrison at 95 speed. While he does get Short In Elite at a discount for 1 AP in its own slot, we don’t really consider that a true discount since Slot archetype WRs also can equip it for 1 AP without a discount. In his other discounted slot, you can choose between Deep Out Elite (1 AP), Mid Out Elite (0 AP), and Playmaker (2 AP). The ability discounts are respectable, but it’s his size and speed that got him the top spot.
HB: 95 OVR Marshawn Lynch
MUT has an abundance of amazing halfbacks and many of them are surprisingly affordable. If you don’t agree with us on this pick, that’s understandable. There is a lot of competition. Lynch leads all halfbacks with 97 trucking and he has the speed (94 SPD, 97 ACC) to break away after he breaks the tackle. His best ability discount is Bruiser for 0 AP. It essentially combines Arm Bar (better stiff arm animations) and Bulldozer (better trucking animations) and you don’t have to spend any AP on it.
QB: 96 OVR John Elway
It’s crazy to think a player that was released more than two months ago is still the best in the game at his position, but Elway is still QB1 in Madden Ultimate Team. He has great throw power (95) and accuracy ratings (93 SAC, 96 MAC, 94 DAC). He has the fastest QB release in the game, Slinger 1, which allows him to get the ball out quickly against the blitz. You are also able to pick any two of the following ability discounts: Fearless (1 AP), Gunslinger (1 AP), Hot Route Master (3 AP), and Set Feet Lead (2 AP). Other QBs are starting to get close to Elway, but he’s still on top for now.
FB: 95 OVR William Perry
William Perry is more of a bowling ball than a Refrigerator. At 335 pounds and with 97 impact blocking, he’s going to win just about every 1-on-1 situation he finds himself in if he has momentum. Whether you want him to lead block for your halfback or you want to give him the ball directly, Perry can make a big impact at a position that doesn’t get a lot of attention in MUT. Perry can equip Goal Line Back for 0 AP which improves your offensive line’s blocking when Perry has the ball inside the 5-yard line. EA also gave Perry the option to equip Return Man for 0 AP. Your opponents will want to think twice before kicking the ball short to the fullback.
SLWR: 95 OVR K.J. Osborn
You probably didn’t expect to see K.J. Osborn here. We’re sure he would be surprised to find out he’s the best slot WR in Madden Ultimate Team too. Osborn combines elite WR ratings with some of the best ability discounts for a slot receiver. He can equip Slot-O-Matic for just 1 AP which allows him to make faster cuts and get more separation against man coverage, whether he’s lined up inside or outside of the numbers. In a separate slot, he can equip Slot Apprentice for 1 AP as well if you want the additional hot routes for your offense.
Give Us Your Feedback
It’s always hard to just pick one player for each position, so we’re sure you’re going to disagree with us on a number of our picks. If you disagree with any of our selections, let us know why. We love hearing from you.
Thanks as always to Hurc and Hodgey from the MUT.GG Discord server for their help in putting together this list. We hope you all have a great holiday season and we’ll be back with more top 10 lists in the new year!
