Christmas Day in Madden Ultimate Team (MUT) is one of the craziest days of the year. With players opening presents en masse, the Auction House gets flooded with cards, causing prices to plummet. While many players panic during this Christmas Crash, smart MUT managers know this is the best opportunity to stack coins and set themselves up for big profits in the weeks ahead.
Here’s your guide to navigating the Christmas Crash, including what to buy, what to sell, and how to maximize your coins during the chaos.
Understanding the Christmas Crash
On Christmas morning, the market crashes because of the sheer volume of presents being opened. With so many new cards flooding the market, supply skyrockets, and prices tank. While some players rush to sell off their new cards at low prices, this is your chance to snipe, invest, and flip for big profits.
Current programs like Zero Chill, Legends, and TOTW are great investments for future releases, while older programs like AKA offer a unique opportunity to try your luck with LTDs.
What I'm Targeting During the Crash
1. 91 OVR Players: The Next Program’s Building Blocks
The next MUT program will likely introduce 94 OVR Champions, and history tells us these sets will require a combination of 5 player items:
- 2-4 Any-Elite players (typically 91+ OVR).
- 2-4 Program-specific items (like Legend or TOTW players).
At launch, these set pieces usually sell for 100-140k coins, but during the Christmas Crash, 91 OVR players will be much cheaper because of the flood of presents being opened.
What to Do:
- Snipe 91s for under 80k coins.
- Look for key players in popular programs like TOTW, Blitz, Unstoppable, and Legends.
- Even if these don’t spike right away, they’ll hold value for upcoming sets.
Why It’s Worth It:
- You’ll be ready for the next program’s launch, and when prices rebound, you can flip these cards for profit.
- Worst-case scenario: You hold onto them and use them in sets later.
2. AKA Players: Vintage LTDs and More
The AKA program offers a huge upside if you know what to target. Instead of buying random AKA players, focus on building 91 OVR Champions.
Why AKA Is Perfect During the Crash:
- Code Name presents are largely believed to be AKA packs.
- With so many presents opening, lower elites for AKA sets will hit rock-bottom prices.
- Building AKA Champions gives you a shot at pulling a Vintage LTD, which quicksells for 350k coins.
What I’m Doing:
- Targeting Johnny Football and Sun God sets.
- Both have non-Vintage 91 OVR versions that still hold value if you don’t pull the LTD.
- Each of these sets requires FIVE 88 OVR AKA players, one being the set champion.
Target Price:
- Buy lower elites for 20k or less each, making it 100k to build a 91 OVR Champion.
The Risk vs. Reward:
- Worst-Case Scenario: You pull all 91s and hold onto them for the next program or sell later.
- Best-Case Scenario: You hit a 92 Vintage LTD and make a huge profit.
3. TOTW Players: Prep for the Final Player of the Month
The TOTW program is wrapping up soon, and the final Player of the Month (POTM) will likely be a 96 OVR card. Previous POTMs like Joe Burrow and Carlton Davis III have maintained high value, and the next one's should do the same.
What to Expect:
- The final POTM set will likely require:
- 4x 94 OVR Players.
- 4x 94 OVR TOTW Players.
What to Do:
- Focus on building 91 OVR TOTW players using sets:
- 4x Any 91-92 players.
- 1x TOTW 91-92 player.
Why It’s a Good Play:
- TOTW Champions are easy to build and hold decent value.
- Even if the market is flooded, TOTW players will remain useful for the POTM set.
4. Legend Players: Prep for the 94s
The Legend program is also coming to end soon and will likely be replaced with Ultimate Legends after the Super Bowl. But, we will still have at least 94 OVR Champions in a week.
- The next Legend Champion set will likely require:
- 4x 91 OVR Legend Players.
- 1x specific 91 OVR Legend Hero.
What to Do:
- Focus on buying 91 OVR Legend players for under 80k.
- Also, look for 88 OVR Legend players under 20k to build 91 OVR players.
- The sneaky buy is set pieces to build the 91 OVR Legend Heroes.
- This set should require Three 89 OVR Legends and One 86 OVR Legend
Why It’s a Good Play:
- Legend Champions sets all require the new Legend Hero. The 91 Legend Hero doesn't exist yet and is largely ignored, leaving you in the perfect position to profit.
- The Hero versions can sell for more than 200k coins depending on the Legend Champion.
Tips for Sniping and Selling During the Crash
Be Patient:
- Prices will drop fast on Christmas morning, but don’t panic-buy. Watch the market for trends and snipe when you see great deals.
Set Filters:
- Use the right filters in the Auction House to find snipes. For example:
- Quality: 91-92
- Program: Zero Chill, AKA, TOTW, Legend, Unstoppable
- Or, leave Program blank and filter by Division. (My personal favorite)
- Or, leave Program blank and filter by Division. (My personal favorite)
Don’t Rush to Sell:
- Player items bought during the Christmas Crash often rebound in value a few days later. If prices are low, wait to sell.
Final Thoughts: Turn Chaos Into Coins
The Christmas Crash can feel overwhelming, but it’s also one of the best time to stack your coins and prepare for future programs. Focus on sniping 91 OVR players, building AKA Champions, targeting Legend program pieces, and prepping for the final TOTW POTM. With patience and smart buys, you’ll come out of the crash with a stronger team and a healthier coin stack.
