Earlier today, EA released a video on Youtube and Gridiron Notes with a Deep Dive breakdown of Franchise mode in Madden NFL 23. Improvements have been made to scouting, free agency, drafting, contract negotiation, and much more. Check out the trailer below and continue reading for a summary of the planned Franchise updates for M23. For a more granular breakdown of each feature, read the full Gridiron Notes from EA.
Free Agency
New Free Agent Hub
A new Free Agent Hub will be front and center in Madden 23, emphasizing clear and accessible information. Within this Free Agent Hub, you will find two new features: Active Negotiations and Evaluations. Active Negotiations limit the number of players a team can target during each stage of free agency, preventing one team from signing all of the top free agents. Evaluation Offers provide more back and forth between the team and player at each stage. Pay close attention to all of the factors that determine a player's level of interest in joining your team.
Player Motivations
In previous years, free agents simply signed with the team that offered the most money. However, we know there are more factors that go into a free agency decision besides money. Madden 23 will introduce new motivation factors such as:
- Super Bowl Chase
- Historic Championships
- Head Coach Historic Record
- Scheme Fit
- Top the Depth Chart
- Team has Franchise QB
- Mentor at Position
- Close to Home
- Big Market
- Tax Free State
- Warm Weather State
- Highest Offer
Player Tags
Player Tags are dynamic, updating weekly, and provide more clarity on a player's role for their team. Tags bring unique effects that apply to the team, player, and their teammates. Examples of Player Tags include the following:
- Award Winner
- Franchise QB
- Bridge QB
- QB of the Future
- Day 1 Starter
- Future Starter
- Bridge Player
- Mentor
- Trade Target
New Contract Negotiation Screen
A new Contract Negotiation Screen is being introduced to Franchise Mode in Madden 23 that highlights new information, such as:
- Player Motivations
- Yearly Breakdown of the Offer
- Depth Chart Information
With this extra information on hand, you can now customize your offer to better align with what interests the player most. For those less interested in this level of detail, four preset contract offers can be made as well that include:
- Team Friendly
- Neutral
- Player Friendly
- Very Player Friendly
Rollover Cap
A new Rollover Cap feature is being added to Madden 23 that allows teams with unused cap money to carry over cash to the following offseason. You will now have to decide whether it makes sense to spend all of your money during a season or hold on to it for future targets.
Franchise Hub
Streamlined Activity Feed
It seems like every year EA is working to streamline their Franchise menus and Madden 23 is no exception. Text has been shortened, spam has been reduced, and new icons have been added in an effort to make the most important info and actions stand out.
Improved Usability
New fonts have been introduced to Madden 23's menu system to help improve readability. After hearing this news, you're probably looking for Pre-Order details, which can be found HERE.
Scouting
New updates have been made to scouting in M23, including:
- 50 new scouts have been added, ensuring more coverage for every position and scouts that better fit your team's needs.
- Scout position groups instead of individual positions for even more coverage. These groups are now:
- Running Backs (Halfbacks and Fullbacks)
- Offensive Tackles (Left and Right Tackles)
- Interior Offensive Linemen (Left Guard, Right Guard, and Centers)
- Defensive Ends (Left Ends and Right Ends)
- Outside Linebackers (Left and Right Outside Linebackers)
- Safeties (Free and Strong Safeties)
- Improvements have been made to the attribute-reveal system that focuses on core attributes before secondary attributes, which provides more important information earlier in the process.
Draft Class Improvements
EA has overhauled existing prospect templates and added a few more in an effort to create more realistic prospects. A few of these new templates are:
- Generational Prospects
- 99 Club Prospects
- High Variance Prospects
- Specialist Prospects
Immersion and Tuning
Draft and Trade Logic
With the addition of the aforementioned Player Tags in M23, improvements have been made to Draft and Trade Logic. The example provided in the Gridiron Notes is when a team has a Franchise or QB of the Future, the team will prioritize drafting a position of need before another QB.
Awards Tuning
Improvements have been made for year-end award winner logic to ensure the most deserving players win each award, such as MVP, Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, etc.
Dev Trait Progression and Regression
In M23, players that win season awards can now see improvements in their development trait progression as a result.
Immediate Offers in Trades
When trading in M23, casual users will now have the option to select a trade target or player from their team and generate offers from there, allowing users to find potential trades much fast and easier than in previous years.
