For the third and final chemistry you need to know about in Madden Ultimate Team, we will be covering Physical Chemistry in today’s article. As you may have guessed by the name, Physical Chemistry gives an extra boost to the physical ratings of your players. Check out some frequently asked questions and a list of all Physical Chemistries with their Pros/Cons below:

Where do I find Physical Chemistry on my player item?
You can locate your player’s Physical Chemistry slot by going to your item binder, selecting the item, navigating to the “Upgrades” tab, and it will be the third slot under “Chemistries & Positions”. See the image below:
What is the difference between 1x and 2x Physical Chemistry?
Each Physical Chemistry has 2 different versions: 1x and 2x. The 1x option costs 750 Training Points and accounts for 1 Component toward your total. The 2x option costs 2,000 Training Points but counts as 2 Components toward your total, allowing you to reach higher tiers and more boosts for your players with the SAME Physical Chemistry.
Once you have unlocked the Physical Chemistry slot on your player item, the 1x version of every Physical Chemistry will be available by default. In order to unlock the 2x versions, you must achieve 93 OVR with your player item.
1x - Available after Physical Chemistry slot unlocked
2x - Unlocked at 93 OVR player rating
Where do I find my Physical Chemistry total?
Go to the “Adjust Lineup” panel and use your joystick to open the “Lineup Tools” menu on the right side of the screen. With this panel open, you will find your active Physical Chemistry totals under “Chemistry” (see 1st image below). If you click the Chemistry, it will show you all active boosts that apply to players with the same Physical Chemistry (see 2nd image below).
Can players switch Physical Chemistry?
Yes. Once you have unlocked a specific Physical Chemistry, it will always be available to equip on that item. You can unlock and equip a different Physical Chemistry later if you choose for just 25 Coins (plus TP cost of the new chemistry if unowned). You can also refund previously purchased Physical Chemistries and receive 90% of your Training Points back.
What are the Physical Chemistry boosts and which players get them?
There are 5 different Physical Chemistry options in total shared between offense and defense. Boosts apply to players on both sides of the ball with the SAME Physical Chemistry. Only players and Coach Madden count toward the Component total required for each tier (starters and backups).
Check out the list of Physical Chemistries with their Pros/Cons and boosts below to select the Chems that are right for you:
*Physical Chemistry Tier boosts are cumulative, meaning if you reach Tier 4 then you get all boosts for Tiers 1-4.
**Specialists receive their appropriate boosts but do not count towards Component Total.
Sprinter
Pros: The +2 SPD boost is the main selling point here along with the increase to ACC. This is a great Physical Chemistry to equip on any player that is not on the O or D-Line.
Cons: The most important downside here is the decrease to COD, which is a pretty important rating this year. However, the boosts to SPD and ACC should make the trade-off worth it.
Cost
1x - 750 TP
2x - 2,000 TP
Tier 1: (+1 ACC) *Requires 5 Components
Tier 2: (+1 SPD, -1 STR, -1 AGI) *Requires 15 Components
Tier 3: (+1 ACC, +1 JMP, -1 COD) *Requires 25 Components
Tier 4: (+1 SPD, -1 STR, -1 AGI, -1 COD) *Requires 40 Components
Brawler
Pros: Similar to Sprinter, the main selling point is the +2 SPD boost. The difference here is that you actually gain STR but lose ACC instead. This Chemistry works best when equipped on your O-Line, D-Line, and pass-rushing Linebackers.
Cons: Losing -2 ACC can be significant, especially on skill position players and defenders in coverage.
Cost
1x - 750 TP
2x - 2,000 TP
Tier 1: (+1 STR) *Requires 5 Components
Tier 2: (+1 SPD, -1 ACC) *Requires 15 Components
Tier 3: (+1 STR, -1 AGI) *Requires 25 Components
Tier 4: (+1 SPD, -1 ACC, -1 JMP, -1 COD) *Requires 40 Components
Shaker
Pros: The +2 COD and +2 ACC are both nice boosts to have on players who rely on their elusiveness. You still get +1 to SPD with fewer penalties than Sprinter or Brawler. This is a great Chemistry to consider late in the year when players come with higher SPD by default and +2 SPD may not be as necessary.
Cons: The difference between +1 and +2 SPD can be significant, especially for newer teams. Most players tend to prefer Sprinter Chemistry for this reason.
Cost
1x - 750 TP
2x - 2,000 TP
Tier 1: (+1 COD) *Requires 5 Components
Tier 2: (+1 AGI, +1 ACC, -1 JMP) *Requires 15 Components
Tier 3: (+1 SPD, -1 STR, -1 JMP) *Requires 25 Components
Tier 4: (+1 ACC, +1 COD, -1 STR) *Requires 40 Components
Leaper
Pros: You gain small boosts in multiple areas while receiving minimal rating penalties. If you are someone who relies on the jump ball a lot in your passing attack, this Chemistry might be worth a look.
Cons: Once again, the difference between +1 SPD and +2 SPD can be more significant than you think. Jumping is most beneficial on your WRs and CBs, where the extra SPD from Sprinter is almost always the better option.
Cost
1x - 750 TP
2x - 2,000 TP
Tier 1: (+1 JMP) *Requires 5 Components
Tier 2: (+1 STR) *Requires 15 Components
Tier 3: (+1 SPD, -1 AGI) *Requires 25 Components
Tier 4: (+1 ACC, +1 JMP, -1 COD) *Requires 40 Components
Acrobat
Pros: Similar to Leaper, you are gaining small boosts in multiple areas while receiving minimal rating penalties.
Cons: Like Shaker and Leaper, you are only getting +1 SPD. Gaining +2 AGI is usually not worth getting 1 less boost to SPD.
Cost
1x - 750 TP
2x - 2,000 TP
Tier 1: (+1 AGI) *Requires 5 Components
Tier 2: (+1 COD) *Requires 15 Components
Tier 3: (+1 SPD, +1 JMP, -1 ACC) *Requires 25 Components
Tier 4: (+1 AGI, -1 STR) *Requires 40 Components
MUT.gg Recommendations
The best Physical Chemistry combination this year in our opinion is Sprinter on all of your players except O-Line and D-Line. For your linemen, equip Brawler for the full +2 SPD boost along with +2 STR. If your team is entering the end game phase of MUT where most players already come with plenty of speed that can be maxed out in other ways, consider switching players over to the Shaker Chemistry.
If you are just starting out, focus on Team and Scheme Chemistry boosts first because it is far cheaper when most players come with Team Chemistry by default and you can equip 1x Balanced O or Balanced D Scheme Chemistry for free.
You should now be more comfortable with all 3 types of Chemistry in Madden Ultimate Team and ready to start taking advantage of all the different boosts to your players on the field. If you still have questions regarding Chemistry or simply enjoy talking MUT, join our Discord!
