Early in your MUT journey, you will be faced with the decision of which Team Captain to select after completing The Campaign: Week 3 challenges. Today's article will break down reasons why you should (or should not) select each one, along with our suggested rankings. Keep in mind there are a lot of factors that could dictate who you ultimately choose, such as playstyle, team composition, theme teams, or simply because you're a fan of the player. We're not here to judge. If you regret your Team Captain selection later, there will be an exchange set available for you to choose a different one at any point, usually at a very reasonable cost!

#4. Shaun Alexander (HB)
The first Team Captain we will take a look at is Shaun Alexander, who comes in at number 4 on our list of recommended picks. Unless you are a heavy between-the-tackles runner or know you are building a theme team that is always weak at HB, we think there are better options. A case can certainly be made for picking him very early on and switching later as your team begins taking shape, but Ultimate Team always has plenty of new HB options to choose from throughout the year. Plus, that 82 COD rating is rough, even for a Power Back like Alexander.
#3. John Lynch (SS)
The next Captain on our list is John Lynch, who would be much higher on our list with his 6'2'' height if it wasn't for another free player at the same SS position, Ultimate Champion Kam Chancellor! It is possible to change Kam Chancellor to FS or CB later on if you really wish, but it will take a while before you get Kam upgraded to the point where he can change positions. You can always play one as a Sub LB inside of the box, but we think there are still better options for Team Captain early in the year.
#2. Jack Youngblood (LE)
Coming in at number 2 on our list of recommended Team Captains is LE Jack Youngblood. We're still a week or two away from launch, but we've yet to see a ton of great pass-rushing options at defensive end. The fact you can get a solid one with 82 SPD and 88 FMV for free is quite tempting. He may not have the "user" ability for those looking to control their Captain, but he should have plenty of value early on and allow you to use your hard-earned Coins elsewhere. Taking advantage of the cheaper Superstar Abilities on the d-line with your Team Captain could be a good reason to select Youngblood as well.
#1. Lance Alworth (WR)
Finally, we arrive at our top Team Captain recommendation, WR Lance Alworth. Yes, there will be plenty of WR options early on but not with cheap Superstar Abilities like Alworth. With his 87 SRR, 87 MRR, and 89 DRR ratings, he should be able to hit your route-running thresholds early with the right mix of Team Strategy Items. Selecting a WR in general as your Team Captain isn't a bad idea due to the fact they can have more influence over a game's outcome than a CPU-controlled LE or HB that will be of little help in passing situations. Alworth's 88 SPD is only 1-point less than Core Elite Tyreek Hill, making him plenty fast enough at the beginning of MUT.
Who will you select as your Team Captain to start the season?
