Hey again Madden fans! The third release of the All Madden program went live yesterday. The content drop included a total of 15 new player items and we're breaking down the top 10 in this week's list:
Top 10 All Madden Release 3 Players in MUT 23
1. 94 OVR Steve Atwater (FS)
Atwater nearly has it all. He's 6'3" with 94 speed, 95 hit power, and 94 zone coverage. The best part is that he can equip Pick Artist for 0 AP which gives him the best chance to defend the high ball aggressive catch meta. He only has 86 man coverage, so if you're zero blitzing every play and putting your FS on an island in man coverage, you're probably better off running a CB at FS. That said, the strengths clearly outweigh the single weakness here. We feel Atwater is the best player in the release.
2. 94 OVR Calvin Johnson (WR)
Every Calvin Johnson item in MUT is always a beast when it first comes out and this is no exception. He has everything you're looking for in a WR: height (6'5"), speed (94), great route running (91 SRR, 93 MRR, 96 DRR), and the ability to win jump balls (96 JMP, 96 SPC). While Johnson's last AKA item had better ability discounts in terms of getting additional routes, All Madden Johnson can equip Route Technician for just 2 AP along with Deep Out Elite for 1 AP in separate slots.
3. 94 OVR Kam Chancellor (SS)
Chancellor is one of the best user defenders in the game. Since he's a strong safety, you can start him at SUBLB and get him as your user MLB in the popular DB-heavy formations. At 6'3" with 93 speed, 95 acceleration, 91 change of direction, and 96 jumping, he can cover a lot of ground. He has 96 hit power and he can equip Crusher for just 1 AP to help you deliver punishing hit sticks. He can also equip Goal Line Stuff for 0 AP. It doesn't bring a ton of value, but it's free and in its own slot, so why not?
4. 94 OVR Larry Allen (RG)
We're starting to approach endgame territory with Allen. Of all the players in this release, he might start on rosters the longest. He's a balanced guard with 96 pass block and 94 run block. Also, at 335 pounds, he's the biggest viable guard in MUT and that matters in blocking calculations. He can equip Secure Protector for just 1 AP which prevents him from getting beaten early in the play with quick sheds by a pass rusher. He has secondary positions of LT, LG, and RT, so you're able to move him to where he's needed most to bolster your offensive line.
5. 94 OVR Jason Kelce (C)
Kelce is a very interesting player item. He has great blocking ratings with 94 pass block, 96 run block, 95 lead block, and the best impact blocking in the game (96). What makes him special is that he's the only player that can equip Nasty Streak for 0 AP. Nasty Streak allows Kelce to consistently win impact blocks when he makes it to the second level and starts blocking linebackers and safeties. If you want to maximize the chances of that, slide him over to either guard position and watch him serve up pancakes to the defense.
6. 94 OVR Rod Woodson (CB)
While Woodson doesn't have the height that's so important in the current meta, he's still a great choice at CB. He has top end speed (94) with 92 man coverage and 94 zone coverage. Woodson is the only CB besides Season 2 Deion Sanders that can equip Deep Route KO for just 1 AP. He also can equip Pick Artist for just 1 AP in its own slot.
7. 94 OVR Darrelle Revis (CB)
Revis is very similar to Woodson, which is why we have them ranked back-to-back. Revis has the best press rating in the game (96) along with 94 man coverage and 94 zone coverage. He's the only player in the game that can equip Outside Shade for a discount, but even at 2 AP, it's generally not worth running since most of the best routes in the best formations in Madden 23 break inside the numbers. Outside Shade has no effect in these cases. However, Revis also gets Medium Route KO for just 1 AP, which is one of the best man coverage abilities, especially if you're a heavy man blitzer.
8. 94 OVR Reggie White (LE)
While White is a great pass rusher, you're probably better off saving coins and picking up Aaron Donald from the last All Madden release instead. Donald has very similar ratings and ability discounts, but he costs significantly less than White. The difference here is that if you really value the El Toro ability, White can equip it for 0 AP. It's just not as impactful as Edge Threat or Double or Nothing, which both players can equip for identical discounts.
9. 94 OVR Travis Kelce (TE)
Kelce is a great option at TE. However, the problem is Harvest Darren Waller is better for half the price. They have very comparable ratings, but Waller has the better ability discounts. Both players can equip TE Apprentice for 1 AP, but Waller can also equip Short In Elite for just 1 AP as well. Kelce can equip Route Technician for 3 AP, but Short In Elite is probably the better ability for tight ends since nearly 100% of their routes break inside the numbers and less than 10 yards from the line of scrimmage. Short In Elite also helps with catching in traffic, while Route Technician only helps get separation from a man defender.
10. 94 OVR Justin Tucker (K)
Tucker has 95 kick power which means you'll be able to hit a 61-yard FG with a perfect kick and no wind. The next best kicker has 93 kick power at this point in MUT. Unless your team is pretty much complete, it's unlikely you're spending hundreds of thousands of coins just to kick a yard or two farther on FG attempts, but Tucker is the best kicker in MUT right now.
Honorable Mention: 91 OVR Ray Guy (P)
We know most of you don't punt, but for those of you that do, you should pick up Ray Guy. He has 93 kick power at a time when the next best punter has 86 kick power. The best part is that he's completely free. Just head over to the new solo challenges that came out with All Madden Release 3.
