Hey, Madden fans! This week’s top 10 list is a bit different. We decided to list some of our favorite ideas for players to upgrade as part of the Golden Tickets program. Our goal was to select players that add something interesting to MUT that we feel are unlikely to be created by EA later on in the season.
Given the rules that EA put on Golden Tickets this year, we didn’t feel we could do much with abilities to create new and interesting player items. That really left us only with out-of-position ideas, so if you’re not a fan of OOP players, you should probably stop reading here.
Top 10 Golden Ticket Ideas for MUT 23
1. 96 OVR Daniel Faalele (HB)
It’s going to be hard to compete with the running backs from the AKA New Class program this season, but Faalele’s size makes him one of a kind at HB. He’s 6’8” and 380 pounds. His last 96 OVR HB item, designed by the Madden pro Henry, is incredibly athletic (95 SPD, 97 ACC) and has great power HB ratings. We were surprised by how good of a receiver Faalele is. He has 94 short route running, 88 medium route running, and 88 catching. EA is in charge of upgrading the physical ratings, but if someone creates this Golden Ticket, they could upgrade Faalele’s route running to create a dual-threat HB that dwarfs the defenders attempting to tackle him.
2. 95 OVR Gary Zimmerman (WR)
A Golden Ticket Zimmerman at wide receiver would be the best run-blocking WR in the game and it wouldn’t be close. He’s 6’6”, almost 300 pounds, and already has the best run block (90) of any WR in the game. He has respectable receiving ratings already, so it wouldn’t take many upgrades to make Zimmerman a serious threat in the passing game too. He would likely become a staple of many run-first offenses in MUT.
3. 96 OVR William Perry (QB)
William Perry at quarterback is probably the closest we’ll get this season to last year’s QB Derrick Henry. He has the Generic 3 release animation, which can definitely get the job done. We expect EA would upgrade his speed to the upper 90’s and he already has all of the QB ratings that he needs to be successful. It’s a shame he’s not eligible for the Big Truzz AKA X-Factor to take away the risk of fumbling, but we still feel he would be a fun option in an offense built around designed QB runs.
4. 95 OVR Harold Carmichael (HB)
A Harold Carmichael Golden Ticket at HB would be an elite WR that lines up in the backfield, and also happens to be 6’8”. He would just need a few physical ratings upgrades from EA to be competitive with the top WRs in MUT right now. Think of this Golden Ticket as a bigger and more dominant version of Keith Byars from earlier in the year.
5. 95 OVR Harold Carmichael (CB)
Carmichael had quite the Madden season. Height has been so important in Madden 23 and various Carmichael player items have played a big role in the MUT meta all year. It’s hard to imagine a better cornerback than a 6’8” defender with athleticism, ball skills, and upgraded coverage ratings that match the best CBs in the game.
6. 95 OVR Haloti Ngata (FS)
At 6’4” and 340 pounds, we envision a Golden Ticket Ngata as one of the best options for a safety that plays in the box. His out-of-position Ultimate Legends item is already ridiculously athletic for someone of his size, so it wouldn’t take much to upgrade him into an elite sub-linebacker. If his agility and change of direction are upgraded enough by EA, Ngata could end up being a great user defender too.
7. 95 OVR Daunte Culpepper (CB)
A Culpepper Golden Ticket at cornerback could essentially be a bigger and harder-hitting version of Night Train Lane. His size, strength, and hit power mean he could be an extremely physical corner. He could play the slot and help with run defense, he could blitz off the edge and cause problems for opposing QBs, or he could play outside and cover the best receivers in the game with the right upgrades and abilities equipped.
8. 95 OVR Pete Metzelaars (SS)
Metzelaars could be the best deep safety in the game depending on the physical ratings boosts EA decides to give him. He’s 6’7” with elite ball skills. His Ultimate Legends out-of-position item already has 95 hit power and 95 tackle. Upgrading ratings like play recognition, pursuit, and impact blocking would remove his current weaknesses and create a top-tier MUT safety.
9. 86 OVR Randy Moss (CB)
While Randy Moss can’t quite compete with Carmichael’s size, he still would be a fun option as a Golden Ticket corner. All the way back in August, so many of us were excited to unlock 86 OVR Randy Moss at CB from the All Madden program. We hope EA would bring his physical ratings in line with his Ring of Honor WR item, and from there he would just need his coverage ratings boosted to be great. Randy Moss will be a fan-favorite in the MUT community for as long as Madden is still around, so we know quite a few of you would be excited about this one.
10. 93 OVR Donald Parham (TE)
Parham is the only player that’s at his normal position that made our list. His 86 OVR Headliners item from the launch of Madden 23 will be remembered as one of the most amazing (or frustrating) players in Madden Ultimate Team history. We felt he deserved a Golden Ticket this year and we hope someone will make him.
