Hey again, Madden fans. For the first time this season, we’re going to take a look at the best offensive linemen in the game. We know a lot of you won’t get excited about adding a new left guard to your team, but especially this season with abilities and their AP discounts, a great offensive line is extremely valuable. Here are our top 10 offensive linemen in Madden Ultimate Team:
Top 10 Offensive Linemen in MUT 23
1. 99 OVR John Madden (LT)
John Madden is on top of the list for the second week in a row. He really is one of the best players in the game right now and he’s likely the end-game left tackle for a lot of MUT fans. With 99 awareness, 98 run block, and 98 pass block, he’s tough to beat. The most valuable aspect of Madden is that he can equip Secure Protector for 0 AP along with Threat Detector for just 1 AP. If you can afford to do it, you really should consider completing his set if you haven’t done so already.
2. 98 OVR Trent Williams (LT)
Trent Williams is almost as good as John Madden. Williams is the only other player in the game that gets Secure Protector for 0 AP. He’s the best run blocker at his position and he’s significantly larger than Madden, weighing in at 320 pounds. Although Williams doesn’t get RT as a secondary position, it still might make sense to play him out-of-position without chemistry boosts just for that ability discount alone if you already have Madden at LT.
3. 98 OVR Maurkice Pouncey (C)
Pouncey has the highest awareness rating (97) of any center in the game. This is important because your center’s awareness rating replaces the lowest awareness rating on your offensive line. For example, if your left guard has 87 AWR and is the lowest among your entire line, Pouncey’s AWR effect will bring it up to 97 instead. You won’t see it in the depth chart, but EA has confirmed this is happening under the hood. Pouncey also gets Secure Protector (1 AP) and Post Up (0 AP) for just 1 AP combined which is the most popular ability combo for a center at this time.
4. 97 OVR Willie Anderson (RT)
Willie Anderson is our favorite right tackle right now. He’s 340 pounds with 97 awareness, 96 run block, and 97 pass block. He gets Secure Protector for 1 AP and you are able to combine it with Post Up for free.
5. 98 OVR Taylor Decker (LT)
Decker is yet another offensive tackle in the top 5, but the best linemen aren’t distributed equally across all five positions. Decker has 99 strength, 99 impact blocking, 98 run block, and 97 pass block. Secure Protector for 1 AP is the obvious choice for his abilities, but you also can add Identifier or Post Up for 0 AP. Further, if you don’t already have Threat Detector somewhere on your offense, you can add that ability as well for just 1 AP.
6. 96 OVR Red Tornado (C)
It’s surprising that a player released two months ago made the list, but Red Tornado still provides a ton of value. His motivator chemistry boosts your LG and RG with the following: +7 AGI, +4 SPD, +7 ACC, +1 RBF, and +1 PBF. He also gets the same Secure Protector and Post Up combination for 1 AP that Pouncey has. Even if you would rather start Pouncey, you can run Red Tornado at backup center and still get all of these boosts. We know it’s a bit ridiculous to spend 250,000 coins on a backup offensive lineman, but if you can afford it, the ratings boosts are meaningful, especially if your offense includes pulling-guard runs.
7. 98 OVR Ben Powers (LG)
Ben Powers is the newest player item on this list as he was released yesterday as part of the Free Agency program. He’s our favorite left guard right now. He has all of the blocking ratings you’re looking for, and with 82 speed and 85 acceleration, he’s fast enough to succeed on pulling-guard assignments. You should be running Secure Protector for 1 AP on Powers along with either Nasty Streak or Puller Elite for 0 AP, depending on your offensive scheme.
8. 98 OVR Jason Kelce (C)
Kelce is another great option at center. He has 99 run block, 99 pass block, 99 lead block, and 99 impact blocking. Kelce gets Secure Protector for 1 AP, Identifier or Post Up for 0 AP, and Nasty Streak or Threat Detector for 1 AP.
9. 98 OVR Zach Martin (RG)
Zach Martin is our best right guard currently available in MUT. He has solid ratings and great ability discounts. You are able to equip both Secure Protector and Nasty Streak for 1 AP each. You are also able to choose one of the following abilities for 0 AP: All Day, Identifier, Post Up, or Puller Elite.
10. 97 OVR The Terror (LT)
If you’re a run-first player, you need The Terror on your squad. His motivator chemistry boosts all of your WRs and TEs with the following: +5 IBL, +5 RBP, +6 RBF, and +6 PBP. Even if you have a better left tackle like John Madden, you should still pick up The Terror and run him as a backup just for the motivator boosts.
Give Us Your Feedback
One of the rules we put on our list this week was that we required at least one player from every natural position to be represented on this list. It felt like we could have filled the entire list with tackles if we wanted to. One of the consequences was great players like Tristan Wirfs missed the cut. We won’t be surprised if you guys have some major disagreements with our list this week. We would love to hear what you would have done differently.
Thanks as always to Hodgey and Hurc from the MUT.GG Discord community and PIHCAM from Huddle.gg for their help in putting this list together.
Have a great weekend everyone!
