Hey MUT fans! Last week was huge in terms of MUT content and nothing was more anticipated than the Team Diamonds release. This top 10 list ranks the best players in the Team Diamonds program:
Top 10 Team Diamonds Players in MUT 23
1. 96 OVR John Elway (QB)
Elway is the best player in the game – and his price reflects that. Multiple players have spent 10,000,00 coins on Elways (the MUT auction house maximum price). He gets great ability discounts on the best QB abilities in the game: Fearless for 1 AP, Gunslinger for 1 AP, Hot Route Master for 3 AP, Set Feet Lead for 2 AP. The best part is that you get to pick two of these at the same time because he has two custom ability buckets.
2. 92 OVR Pete Metzelaars (TE)
One of the few places height matters more than Tinder is Madden Ultimate Team, and Metzelaars has it. He’s 6’7” with 89 speed. He also gets Deep Out Elite for only 2 AP. You can line him up outside as a WR and aggressive catch over your opponents all day. Headliners Parham was a meta-defining player to start the season and Metzelaars is the newer, better version.
3. 92 OVR Hines Ward (WR)
Ward is the best slot receiver in MUT right now. He gets the Slot-O-Matic ability for only 2 AP (normally 4 AP) which helps him get separation from the man coverage meta. He also has amazing agility (94) and change of direction (92) that also help him beat man coverage. Finally, EA didn’t forget about Ward’s run blocking dominance. He has 83 run block and 86 impact blocking which are by the highest of any WR by a wide margin.
4. 92 OVR Bernie Kosar (QB)
We know most of you reading this won’t be able to afford Elway any time soon and Kosar is the consolation prize at QB from the Team Diamonds program. He has respectable passing ratings and a decent release. What makes him special is that he can run Fearless and Set Feet Lead for 5 AP total due to his ability discount on Fearless. The only QBs that can run both abilities for less are Elway and AKA Air McNair.
5. 92 OVR Willie Anderson (RT)
Edge Threat is here and it’s not going anywhere. Recently, the community figured out you can stack it with Double or Nothing and even Defensive Rally to get unbelievable organic pressure just sending 3 pass rushers. The hard counter to Edge Threat is Edge Protector which Anderson can equip for just 2 AP due to his ability discount. If you didn’t grind for Tom Compton from the last Competitive Pass, you need Willie Anderson at RT.
6. 92 OVR Jason Witten (TE)
Like Metzelaars, Witten is a great option at TE from the Team Diamonds program. While he can agg with the best of them at 6’6”, he’s probably better suited for a different role in most offenses. He gets Short In Elite for just 1 AP which will help him beat man defenders. If you run Bunch (where TEs are treated as slot WRs) or you want to run him as a slot WR, you could go with his other ability discount of Slot Apprentice for 1 AP instead. Either way, he brings a lot of value as an interior receiver.
7. 92 OVR Sammy Knight (FS)
Even mid-tier abilities can be great when they’re free. That’s why Knight made this list. He has respectable ratings for a coverage safety but he gets Crusher for just 0 AP. Consider pairing him with Derwin James at SS who also gets Crusher for 0 AP. Over the course of a game, Crusher can add fatigue to your opponents’ players with each hit stick you land and it will eventually lead to turnovers off of fumbles.
8. 92 OVR Keith Hamilton (DT)
Hamilton made the list for the same reason as Sammy Knight. He gets Goal Line Stuff for 0 AP. Normally we wouldn’t recommend Goal Line Stuff as we don’t feel it’s worth spending AP on it. When it’s free though, why not? If you’re truly MUT rich, pick up Hamilton as a DT3 and only sub him in for goal line situations.
9. 92 OVR Samari Rolle (CB)
While we know most people are primarily running man defense right now, Rolle is the best zone corner currently available. He has 91 speed and 94 zone coverage. He also gets ability discounts on Deep Out Zone KO (2 AP) and Flat Zone KO (1 AP). Which one you choose depends on your scheme. If you run mostly cover 2, you want Flat Zone KO. If you run more Cover 3 and 4, you want Deep Out Zone KO.
10. 92 OVR Matt Forte (HB)
There is an abundance of great HBs in MUT right now, and Forte is one of them. He’s obviously a solid runner, but he’s also one of the best pass-catchers at his position. He has two decent ability discounts as well in Backfield Mismatch (1 AP) and RB Apprentice (2 AP).
