as a newcomer I'm wondering why I've had to search the web for imho basic info that's not explained in game, like wtf are those bars over the rushers, arcs under the OL guys and the like...
maybe I'm missing something? or is it just I'm old-fashioned?
This was introduced in M21. The bars over the rusher's head signify the number of pass rush moves they have available on that particular play. As the pass rusher uses a move with the right analog stick, you will notice one bar disappear. Pass rushers can gain moves between plays and some abilities can help with this too.
The arc you see under an O-Lineman represents their blocking resistance against that particular pass rusher. Here's something I wrote about it at the time in a previous news article:
Blocker Resistance
As an offensive lineman goes up against a specific defensive player, they will now have the ability to remember which side the defender has been beating them on from previous plays and begin to build resistance to that particular side. Defensive pass rushers will now have to get more creative when rushing the QB and mix up their moves, direction, and matchups if they would like to consistently break through the line.

actually your post about the hashmarks in the playcall screen made me post this. it's frustrating to have the feeling that I'm missing important info just because EA didn't took the time to nicely put it all together.
these things above (and others) should at least be included in the tutorial/practice drills imho.
