Are Theme Teams worth it?

I’m still somewhat new to this game - started late in M24. Am wondering: are theme teams worth it this early in the season? I have 15 Niners players and for the life of me I can’t tell if it’s doing anything at all for those guys. 
 

Am I missing something?

It's only +1 spd

Ex. It would only matter for times like now with Marv being the fastest reciever to run a Cards tt to get him +2 faster than everyone.

Or on the flip side, if I stacked my team with more Niners I guess I could boost that juicy Vernon Davis by 2 speed.

Theme teams have been killed this year.  If you want a decent team you have to do a hybrid theme team.  20 players from 1 team and 20 from another.  Anything less than 20 and it’s not worth it

I just enjoy doing it so im not chasing every highest card possible. Gives me something to target.

The boosts are not really that noticeable.

is it going to be capped at 20 players all year?

No idea, most of the time it’s been 50/50 but idk why the changed it. Knowing EA it could change at anytime but for now it’s stuck at 20/20

You're not really missing anything. Although if you can pick up 5 more (or three more players & a green uncommon +2 49ers team strategy item) you'll get to that magic twenty mark.

Most stats are meaningless, but speed kills. Having Mostert at 87 SPD since week 1 definitely made an impact on my early MUT25 progress. 

With how easy it is to attain twenty players, I've been running hybrid theme team; 20 49ers, 20 Jets & 9/9 Ultimate Preseason (only the orange cards get this additional +1 SPD boost, the platinum player equivalent do not, because EA logic).

Start bidding 250 coins on basically ANY & every Niners player you can get your hands on. These gold cards can get more rare (and expensive) as the year progresses. If you're on PS5 I can probably hook you up with some extras I've been collecting.

EDIT: I suspect on top of the 20/20 theme teams, we'll continue to get a constant cycle of promo specific theme team boosts, similar to Ultimate Preseason. Word on the street is that TOTW will have +2 SPD at full 9/9 players. I think 5/9 might grant +1 SPD.
