I have a full Vikings theme theme and have Moss at 94 speed. Just played a dude who had 87 speed Christian Gonzalez and stuck with Moss all game. How is that even possible with a 7 speed differential??
Very good question…interested to see what the community has to say. 94 should torch 87

My jabrill peppers has 90 spd with chem boosts and couldnt catch a parham with 81 spd (they started out like a few arm lengths apart btw) for like 45 yards yesterday, in a solo battle at that. I regularly get caught from behind by much slower pursuers (,especially against humans but occasionally by the cpu too).
Ive been saying this myself recently. I even posted something about it recently.

The pursuit angles are really bad too. Especially the cases where even when you take control of the defender to tru to do it yourself amd the cpu does some weird "assist" override or something and basically steers your defender (that youre supposed to be controlling) away from what youre trying to do. Drives me nuts.
Sometimes I wonder if the speed and acceleration boost that we add from theme teams actually work in game. I’ve had the same things happen as well . I’ve had my players stick with much faster players as well so I know my opponent was pissed.
Yup, happens all the time. Sometimes you can tell a difference, sometimes you cant.
if the slower defender is pressing a vertical route, the speedy receiver usually wins. But in stock alignment or zone it’s a toss up.
you’ll notice the speed difference more in man coverage or on cross/drag routes.
solo battles speed Is juiced compared to h2h. I had javon hargrave run stride for stride with my V Davis on a crossing route.
One of my biggest gripes is how fast TE's are
They blow away my 92 - 93 spd CB's all day long

Right. Lumbering ass Gronk smoking my best CBS lol.
It's not as big of a deal as people make it out to be, unless you run a man scheme.
I still have Joey Porter Jr and Pat Pete on my field. They're 88 and 87 speed with my TT boost and are lockdown to this day. I win a lot more games than I lose.
When it comes to zone...if you have the proper coverage on the field, it's gonna be tough to beat.
Scheme > Team
the game is all about that momentum meter at the top, if you don't have momentum on your side you need to play super safe and your defense isn't going to do sh*t, if you have the momentum meter up then you will be able to complete everything run and the whole 9.
if you have full momentum, it doesn't matter what players you have, you can have a gold player and he will pick off randy moss, and the game is just that simple, you need to not make crazy plays or deep plays when you don't have the meter or you can count on it being picked off no matter what type of team they have.
people used to call it DDA dynamic difficulty adjustment, so EA put it in the game and made it the momentum meter.
that's why alot of people say stats don't matter, because if you don't have that momentum meter your cards won't perform, and if you do have it any card will overperform.
watch everytime you play and you have that momentum meter against you, you can pretty much predict that even if you drive it all the way down the field it's a super high chance you throw a duck or a pick.
Like everything in the game...there is no consistency. That big a difference in speed does matter...until...it doesn't.

I've finally been forced to move on from most of my 87 OVR cards, especially the DBs (thinking Prime Time AKA & Richard Sherman Legends), as both were starting to feel a bit slow. Even with +1 SPD (from theme team chems), they're feeling long in the tooth and weren't able to play Slot corner effectively, but defense is difficult and tedious this year, to put it mildly. Regardless, you have an incredible point here, the pursuit (especially angles) are horrendous and have been for multiple game iterations, as far as i can tell.
It hasnt in a couple years..

Honestly, the way defense was nerfed no defense is really hard to beat. It's like a track.meet these days in Madden.
Programming > Scheme.
The reason 87 speed can stay with 92 speed is simple. EA wants everyone to think that they have a chance to win. It's more random than ever. This way it keeps more customers invested in their game
