Choosing from the 88 OVR Rookie Premieres

When I first received my 85's, I selected JC Latham, Braden Fiske, and Terrion Arnold. I think I chose very well, as none of these were inexpensive positions to upgrade from until after Campus Heroes had been around for a bit. All of these are still starting for my team, and I'm wondering if I should settle for an incremental upgrade or grab players at new positions. I went on a spending spree yesterday after selling some Breakouts champions I built from sets, and have ended up with a 20/20 49ers, 9/9 UPS theme.

Here's where I'm standing right now:

QB: SoB Josh Allen (ahead of UPS Matthew Stafford)
HB: Christian McCaffrey and UPS Raheem Mostert
WR: Randy Moss, Puka Nacua, and UPS Amari Cooper
LT: RP JC Latham
LE: S1 Maxx Crosby (with RP Braden Fiske starting at RE after holding him at DT until I picked up UPS Javon Hargrave to play next to Christian Wilkins)
LOLB: UPS Leo Chenal
CB: S2 Cooper DeJean (88 OVR), Richard Sherman, and RP Terrion Arnold
FS: UPS Ifeatu Melifonwu

(I hadn't realized how much overlap there was between UPS and RP by position.)

I'm leaning toward Jayden Daniels, Rome Odunze, and Terrion Arnold as the most substantial upgrades here: The tokens should keep them in the lineup for at least two more months, and since I'm more of a pocket quarterback, I can sub in Daniels for read option runs. Being a 49ers fan, I'll eventually spring for Haley, and when he comes out, Ronnie Lott, so I feel like I would burn through the LOLB and FS selections. I'll probably be buying back Chase Young at some point. My only regret with those three choices could be passing on the improved Fiske. I'll take a day to think about it.

Arnold, daniels, odunze 88s.

I chose Latham, Arnold, Turner the first time.

I chose Daniels with the one they sent me earlier in the week, as I had already sold my SOB Josh Allen. I just got the other two this morning and haven't decided on them yet. I am leaning towards Arnold and Latham. I hear good things about Nubin, but I have BND Sean Taylor and BND Derwin James at FS and SS, so probably won't take Nubin. 85 OVR Turner has been pretty non-existent for me, so probably won't take him again.

85s I went: DE, CB and SS

88s I went: CB, SS and HB...no regrets as the CB and SS played great at 85 and are that much better at 88. The DE plays well enough at 85, but suspect will be on the bench or moved to DT in the not to distant future. Needed a HB upgrade and having one can TT any team will keep the card on the team for the rest of the year (RB3 is nothing else), but at 88...should be RB1 or RB2 for some time.

Did EXACTLY the same as you, but picked Nubin over Daniels cuz I’m a Packers TTer and I’m targeting Love. Arnold is the only player it made sense to pick again - physical traits and coverage stats will keep him on the field for the next month.

Rome Odunze I picked few weeks ago when he was 87. He is sooo dam good!!

85 went with CB Arnold, Latham and Fiske.

88 - Only picked Odunze so far probably Arnold. Not sure on the third yet

DO NOT take Jayden Daniels (broadly speaking, there's so many QBs released, not a great idea to lock yourself into something with a BND choice -- i'd urge you to consider Latham on the O-line), i believe we're due to get a Will Levis here fairly soon, he should be absolutely excellent with the Slinger 1 release, i'm hoping he's a mini Jordan Love type QB, but at a fraction of the cost.

I faced a similar scenario, didn't really want to select cards that were the same, especially ones (85 OVR version) that i'm still using. However, not taking the truly elite cards, and settling for incremental (at best) upgrades also felt foolish. We're caught between a rock and a hard place. My original Rookie Premier choices were; Jayden Daniels (QB), Terrion Arnold (CB) and JC Latham (LT). All three were still on the roster until last evening.

Here's my current squad -- what i ended up doing:

[CB] Terrion Arnold: this was a no brainer, as i don't have any other 89 SPD corners, plus we get to actively use four corners at any given time, so he should have legs or at least become a depth piece down the road, plus flexibility for adjusting theme team, at will. Considering trying to roll out 20 Lions. Maybe.
[WR] Rome Odunze: similar thinking here, i don't have any 6'3" 89 SPD receivers, so he's elite and definitely makes the squad
[LT] JC Latham: this one felt kind of foolish, as i'm still using the 85 OVR card, but that just goes to show how much legs a BND lineman will have, so after sleeping on it, i decided this made a lot more sense than taking something else which wasn't even really an upgrade to begin with.

With the addition of Night Train and J'Ayir Brown to my defensive backfield, it might be time for me to start playing a bit more straight up Man to Man. I'm in a much better position to continue Double Mugging fools with the roster upgrades. YMMV. I definitely considered Fiske, but as i'm running 20 Niners, 20 Jets, 20 Ultimate Preseason i'm going to continue rolling with the New York Sack Exchange boys, as they've been absolutely excellent. Splurged and spent my tokens on BND Chuck Haley last weekend, no regrets there. He's an absolute goon. I had him on the D-line for a while, but he's just so tall and so fast, so now i'm USERing him and allowing the three Jets to run wild chasing the opposing QB. It's almost liek being back in New Yawk City smack dab in the midst of the halcyon days of the middle 1980s.
