Give him lurk artist and universal coverage and let him just do his thing out there. 3 games, 3 INTs and he seem to be around the ball when they run to his side. Best CPU MLB hands down.
But that costs a 95 champ, light it up token, and I think 2 AP to get lurk artist and universal coverage for a CPU controlled MLB in coverage....
Would rather use my tokens on Doug Williams and Sapp
My MLBs (subLBs as well) are ZC Gronk and Playoff Greenlaw. Dre gets up to 98 speed, 94 zone, free lurk artist and stonewall....
If Howley was a DB and got free universal coverage it woul be a more attractive possibility

One AP For Light it up Universal Coverage. 0 AP Lurk artist. And sub him in nickel with a SS at LB package and he basically gets silly anywhere and everywhere on the field. Zan did a video on it. And yes, the 95 to get a 95 is stupid.
I did his powerup last week and put Herb in there and felt stupid doing it…..and after one game realized he was better as AI than with me usering him. Cowboys TT, so he’s 99 speed, 99 acc. High 90s jumping, power, COD.

Yes, I am aware of Zan's vids on Kam and Howley....I've known him for a while but I don't always agree with his usage of AP and abilities....in this case I do disagree with him
He proposes using Howley as a Safety in a nickel set so that he can get safety hot routes. What this does is leaves the middle completely exposed unless you drop your pass rushers back ...Zan is coming from the perspective of defending deep corner routes not the middle of the field...Is that really how you would want to use your MLB?
Sometimes I laugh because he tweaks the vids to support what he is saying......for example, he mans up Howley on a corner route in his vid and shows how he disrupts the pass but he threw it SO late, the receiver was clearly open for seconds before that.
I love Zan but he likes to give "different" viewpoints on things. I still prefer to have the Light it up UF on Sapp , run Gronk and Kam or even Greenlaw with free lurk artist and stonewall with 98 speed at SubLB..

Just to play devils advocate
you go out and buy sapp for 500k. Spend 1light it up token. You’ve now spent 500k and a light it up token on a 95 overall card.
you go out and buy sapp for 500k. You upgrade a different card that was free to 95 overall (same overall as sapp) using that sapp card. You then use a light it up token on this upgraded card. You’ve now spent 500k and a light it up token on a 95 overall card… 🤷🏼♂️
I get that Howley/ward were free cards and all but I’m not sure why everyone is making it seem like you are sacrificing everything to get the last tier of their upgrade. You’re literally spending the same amount of coins you would have on any other 95 overall Super Bowl card lol.
Anyway, glad your team is set up how you want it.

It's not the same...
You no longer have 95 Sapp in your lineup so you just wasted 500K on a player that you are not going to be able to use.
In option A) You have Howley/Ward at 92 OVR and Sapp 95 OVR
In option B) You have Howley/Ward at 95 OVR
Frankly, I don't care about the cost. I have 20 mil coins and a 96 OVR squad so if I want to upgrade Howley or Ward to 95 it's no sweat.
But if you want to use Howley in a situation where he gets Safety hot routes, you either have to stay in nickel over, or call a play in nickel over, then audible to big nickel G, then pick a different play, align your player, and THEN hot route Howley. Massive pain. Plus he won't get flat hot routes, so like I said earlier, you are only using Howley in deep coverage and giving up the whole middle of the field from 20-25 yards in
Or you can put Howley at true MLB and let him do his thing from there. It is NOT as versatile as Zan says because of all the gyrations you have to go into and even then you can only use him in a half, a third, etc. No flats , verts, hooks, etc. I think Zan is a great asset to the community but his setups are just options and IMO they are not the best setups for everyone. Let's see if in the upcoming MCS tourneys Howley is used that way or not. My guess is not

to me your getting a 95 overall player, and spending the same amount of coins anyways. I think of it as trading 500k for a 95. Not like you can’t buy another sapp and use him. A 92 likely isn’t starting on the majority of teams anyways. I guess if it means a lot to you to have that 92 receiver in your bottom WR spot it would matter? Don’t really know.
To be frank, I have no clue who Zan is and I don’t really care. Nor do I care to watch YouTube videos on how I can be like every other madden player you match with on H2H.. Running a certain formation or having to use particular set-ups to use a MLB at safety sounds stupid to me anyways. All I know is Howley is excellent when you just let him do his thing in zone at the linebacker position. Let him play the flat or your normal yellow zones or drop him into the deep middle third if you’re playing cover 2. Awesome card.
The point of this thread was to tell people that he is a more than viable option, and probably the best linebacker in the game. Not sure why this got steered in the direction it did.

Did you just say Universal Coverage on Howley is useless?!

Hahaha. Yes. Totally agree. I would never send him to the deep sideline like that. I’ve been letting Howley take the mid read level middle while I’ve been usering a side/corner. He’s been awesome There. Was merely pointing to Zan using him all over. Not my defense at all, but it does show a little of how good Howley is for one AP. Cheers.
I use that on Howley and loving the CPU plays. Also does make plays in the run
One of My problems this year has been free cards are not even free anymore

Why are you guys even talking about some youtuber? Who cares what he says or does? It's not that deep dude lol someone said Howley is a good card, nothing more than that. Not everybody sits there and watches youtubers all day.
and playing Howley anywhere but MLB is weird
